What do you think of this idea?
I posted this topic on a Caddy board and thought I'd send it this way as well! Bare with me on this one, it's an interesting one.....
How about a dual 500/455 motored Vista Cruiser, Safari, or Estate wagon? A 500/Th-425 swap from an Eldorado or 455/Th-425 from a Toronado into the front bay, and then another custom mounted 500/455/TH-425 motor in the rear! Anybody think having 910/1000 cubic inches and traction to boot sounds good? Weight distribution should be good as well. How does that sound for a wicked sleeper car? What do you think driving around 1000+ ft/lbs of torque and 4WD would be like? Personally, I'd like to have a '70 Pontiac Sport Safari done up as a GTO Judge, but mine would say "THE JUDGE, JURY, & EXECUTIONER" (Probably been done a million times, but still cool) I think a '68 Olds Cutlass Wagon with beautiful black paint and modern wheels/bige wide tire would be pretty darn cool too! 1000 or so c.i.d. would be fun too! Yes, I know, no mention of a Caddy wagon. It would be VERY cool, but very hard to locate one as well. What do you guys think? |

i think matching the engine rpm and final gearing would be interesting. i just don't think it would work.

i think its nuts but hey if ya want to build it , got the money time and inclination go for it its gonna be a hell of alot of fabricating etc and most of its gonna be all custom work but if ya want to go for it

There were a few wagons built with the GTO Nose from the factory.Pretty rare!

you would have to build the engines EXACTLY THE SAME and it would be really hard to get everything the same front and rear. if one became slower than the other kiss the other diff goodbye

I've been thinking about this idea for many months now. I have thought about many different vehicles for would-be 4WD 1000cid monster conversions. Dare I tell you all that I even thought about a 67'-72'? Don't hate me, it was just an idea!!!!!

hey, l'll have to dig up the pics but a few years ago i built a 86 toyota pu and put a 486BB chevy nos and a predator carb. in the bed. ran 35 goodyear wranglers on the rear. the thing ran like stripped a## ape. the exhaust was a set of chrome dry stack headers from a boat. it was built for the great american tractor race in temecula,ca. it was good fun.

A friend told me a story about a OLDS toranado that pulled into the full service at a gas station parked, and asked the attendant to check the oil. The guy poped the hood and the carb was missing. He looked at the guy funny and told him. the guy shut the hood started it up and drove off. (he had the dual setup that you are talking about. pretty funny )

That'd almost be as hard to tune as the napier engine that had three crankshafts... with 6 cylinders each geared together into one output....
And to top it out it was a diesel engine with TWO pistons per cylinder. It is the WEIRDEST looking engine I've sever seen... cranks in a triangle setting with pistons that go on each end of the cylinder to compress... ports are in the sides of the cylinders. Their most complicated engine though was the 12 cylinder, horizontally opposed, turbo diesel, turbine engine... yes, a piston diesel engine that shared outputs with a turbine engine... or more realistically the turbine engine provided turbo boost as well as being geared directly to the diesel engine... also had the highest thermal efficiency of any engine... a whopping 65%! Compared to like 20%-30% for a car motor. |
