1985 350 fuel pump
Just a comment on the royal HASSLE I had replacing the fuel pump on my '85 350 w/quad 4, on a Vandura 3500.
***** 1 Never saw the aft side fuel pump bolt for removing because the frame was in the way, until I got it out. ***** 2 Never saw the push rod for the fuel pump, even with a mirror. Used heavy grease to hold it up; block didn't have a threaded hole to captivate it. ***** 3 New fuel pump had no return to tank outlet, so had to block that line off. ***** 4 New fuel pump had inlet and outlet misaligned w/hose from tank and steel line to carb. Had to rebend steel line into submission in a one handed position, and add new piece of 3/8" fuel hose for inlet. Royal PITA !!! It was an hours long job for what should have been a half hour! Thanks for the place to gripe. |

Re: 1985 350 fuel pump
I’m surprised there wasn’t a threaded hole to hold the rod, never seen a block without one.
Glad you got it done.

Re: 1985 350 fuel pump
Sounds like they sold you the wrong fuel pump as well.
AFAIK they didn't make a G Van or CK truck without a return line after the late 1970's.

Re: 1985 350 fuel pump
Here's a pic of my weak in the knees old pump that gave up. New one is about half the size.
Geezer are you over there on the Island? If so you're sure right about this summer weather. |

Wow I have not see one that size in a long time, way before the 80's.

Re: 1985 350 fuel pump
Maintenance is usually tougher on a van. I Love Vandura's. I have been looking for a nice 3500 for a couple years.
