towing tips please
Well the '90 Olds got me (or my kid) again. Brakes went out this time, don't know whats wrong. College is out for Christmas break and I want to bring it home to mess with. U-haul has towing dolly for $50.00. I have never towed anything for any great distance. This will be 80 + miles. Any words of wisdom??

leave the key turned on... well not in the on position, but one click foward so that the steering wheel can still be turned. This is so the car can turn without puting a strain on any of the steering components.
Leave extra room to stop, because you have this extra weight pushing you foward, but no weight is being pushed down on your tow vehicle, so that kinda sucks IMO. Have a safe trip

If you get the tow dolly that swivels, you don't need to leave the key turned on....
Get a trailer if you can, price isn't all that much different from u-haul. Take your time and be careful. Advantage of a dolly is that it'd be better for a 1/2 ton/ short bed as far as tongue weight and stability. |

Be preapired, U-Haul will probably tell you that you can not tow that much weight.
Ask them how much there books say you can tow, and then go to another U-haul dealer and tell them you are towing a smaller car which weighs that much less dolly. |
