Aftermarket high hump replacement?
Tried to search but it came up with all the threads about the low to high hump conversion. I already have a stock high hump in my 68 (4 speed), but it already has at least one poor patch panel put in it as well as a much too large hole for the existing shifter. I saw there are a variety of aftermarket replacement high hump panels (Key Parts, AMD, Goodmark) but am curious if anyone has used one of the manufacturers and can vouch for the fit. I know the aftermarket sheet metal can be hit or miss so I just want to try to get it right the first time.
Also, do they reproduce the rubber seal that goes in the grove on the hump to seal it to the floor? Thanks for the replies. Nick |

Re: Aftermarket high hump replacement?
I bought a new metal high hump from cooper restorations for under $100. Quality was excellent. I installed a new floor shifter and didn’t want to deal with the old shifter hole.

Re: Aftermarket high hump replacement?
AMD was the one I was looking at. Seems good.
I found one from a trashed 68, so it’s original. I will say, I don’t know what the differences are from 68 to my 72 (most will say “none”), but the hump didn't fit my 72 as well at the firewall sloped side as it did the 68. I had a decent gap at the firewall, which would have taken thick sealer to really work well. The 68 fit tight there. Fortunately I took some of the 68 Firewall/floor with me and patched it in so it looks like a great fit. I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed any variances between years, but I did, and I’m certain the pan is placed where it should be (hard to mess up, fits like a glove on the floor). It’s seems like I’ve seen some people’s hump transplants that look like they may have extra sealer there too. It would’ve been ok, but I wanted a tighter fit. So, having said that, my experience with factory wasn’t a “perfect” fit. I‘d expect AMD to work fine. Last edited by General23cmp; 07-12-2020 at 10:36 PM. |

Re: Aftermarket high hump replacement?
I think some of the problems like General23cmp has encountered may have as much to poor original assembly as to differences in the floor boards. Some where in the past there was a thread documenting poor floor pan welding and alignment. If your lucky you have a Friday (or a Monday) truck like me. Uggghh!

Re: Aftermarket high hump replacement?
Jason Vannatta,
is a member on here and is a great guy. From his F/B page. I fabbed up a trans hump that is 1" taller than a high hump to get the clearance needed for this 6l90 transmission for this 72 C10. Then I made a small tunnel so the driveshaft yoke would have clearance. After that I made a complete driveshaft tunnel just to put on the website. If your laying frame with a one piece driveshaft you're going to need a driveshaft tunnel. If you're laying frame with a 6l90 you're going to need the trans hump and Yoke tunnel. If you're laying frame with a t56 you'll need the trans hump. I didn't design these to be trimmed to fit. They should drop right in place ready to be welded. Trans hump $150.00 Yoke tunnel. $50.00 Driveshaft tunnel $125.00 All of my parts and prices are available at my website vannattafabrication.com

Re: Aftermarket high hump replacement?
So, I assume custom carpet is required with this? Do you know if a standard height or maybe 2” lowered trucks with a 6L90 can work with the standard high hump? I’m not laying frame, but had assumed the 6L90 would clear a high hump.
