67 Big window ta2 inspired race truck
Hey guys, I know its not for everyone but it's been my dream to combine race car components into a c10 build. Ive had this dream for the last 15 years. Recently just decided to go for it. I'll update as i can but this being my dream build may take some time. Plan is rolling chassis before winter here. Im off to a decent start.
Start with a simple chassis jig to build the frame up from.

Re: 67 Big window ta2 inspired race truck
Still collect parts here. Winters quick change with unequal tubes (changed to equal length tubes. Used wildwood hubs, the front lower a arms strut rods spindles and upper arms were collected. Also started mocking up a wheelbase and general plan for the chassis. Ended up deciding on a 110" wheelbase

started to assemble the front suspension, still messing with wheelbase at this time, also starting to mock up the cab.

Re: 67 Big window ta2 inspired race truck
Mocked up the front sheet metal to eye ball the wheelbase at least also to check proportions, then went with new steel axle tubes for the wide 5 hubs going to run 15x12 rear wheels with about a 4" backspace. Started mocking up the first part of the three link, will also add watts link later.

Re: 67 Big window ta2 inspired race truck
Chassis is welded at this point, wheelbase is set, waiting on tubing to build cage, and build x member before much else. Engine is boost ready, LC9 5.3 with SBE gapped and ready to go, used for mock up for now, love the engine placement should be good for weight distribution and on that pic cab is a bit forward for front wheels so should go back just a few more inches into the cab. This takes me to about where I'm at now, waiting on tubing and parts to keep going. Likely do cab corner and rockers this next week. Sheet metal will have no structural component to the build so ill likely mount the cab straight to the rockers and make it removable too incase it gets bashed up.

Re: 67 Big window ta2 inspired race truck
Thanks for following along guys. Wasn't sure how this build would be received. Building this one for me so figured id do it anyway. Ive done the factory builds for awhile just wanted to change it up some. Heres the shock hoops in, adjustable for ride height without messing with preload on the shocks. Pretty cool. Going to be doing cab corners, rockers inner and outer soon. Then going to cut out the firewall and floor attaching the cab to inner rockers, and ultimately to the cage as well. More to come. PS. don't mind my fancy shock simulators or even better the tie rod ends.

Some more progress. Waiting on the other pair of tires in the am. Doing rockers and corners here too and then be mounting the cab at the rockers to the chassis.

Re: 67 Big window ta2 inspired race truck
Impressive.
Curious about one thing - why a steel cab? Why not a lightweight fiberglass cab? Is it a race truck or a street truck? |

Re: 67 Big window ta2 inspired race truck
It'll be a vin tag street truck mainly planning on auto cross and just some fun street driving for it. My state is lax, no problem building my own frame just need a legal cab with unaltered vin. Wish i could get away with fiberglass. Also floor is going to be completely gone once i get rockers/corners in.
