Bronco retro

Ok, I see the retro Bronco. Never a F fan, but...nice.
Will we see a Blazer retro?

Re: Bronco retro

No. Chevy already has a new Blazer and it's nothing in any way retro. Name only. Ford did a better job of recreating their iconic Bronco.

Re: Bronco retro

GM could always take their granddaddy truck brand and produce a retro Jimmy

Re: Bronco retro

I dont think a retro anything is in GMs DNA anymore. I am pretty sure that they are taking their styling from Edsel Ford at this point. Sadly I am a GM fan who has only owned 1 none GM product other than diesel trucks. We are talking dozens of them at this point.

I'd like to see that. I guess there's no Ramcharger by Dodge either.

Re: Bronco retro

I doubt Chevy will have any answers.

They left the Raptor unchecked, and the Ram rcsb Hemis. So it should be pretty obvious they live in a alternate universe. As i live in the past, and have not seen them.

Re: Bronco retro

While the Bronco's grille resembles the original the rest of the rig looks like a beefed up Explorer to me.

Re: Bronco retro

Gm of current is not worth much in the styling dept. they all look like GM tried to take the failed 6th gen Camaro styling and apply it to the whole damn line. I’m not a fan of anything they are making right now save the C8. The performance of the Camaro and even the new trucks is very good but the styling is terrible. I sure hope they don’t try to respond at this point, a first gen blazer with a 2020 Camaro SS front end would look plain fugly.

Re: Bronco retro

I think the closest thing GM will have to answer the Bronco will be the GMC Hummer when it relaunches.

Granted, it's going to be an all-electric SUV, so we'll see how that goes.

I've never been a F### fan, but I'm glad to see a classic name stay true to its roots. And the Wrangler has needed some competition for a while.

Re: Bronco retro

I see no repeat of the past Bronco here. I see a simple boxy body design like trucks used to be placed over a modern vehicle. I see the same thing as an FJ Cruiser or H2. These vehicles are no more off road worthy than my '95 K2500 Suburban or any Tahoe.

As far as GM styling in recent years goes, Before the Camaro the Cadillacs began that chiseled look and I think they nailed it. I'd love to own a hot Caddy. They got away from their tradition land yacht and made changes for today's market. GM put the sport back into the Cadillac. I feel that type of styling comes from Japan. I'd rather drive a Cadillac on the road and keep my old truly rugged old stuff for off road with abilities no new 4wd can touch

Re: Bronco retro

From what I have seen I like the looks of the 2 door, true Bronco. Want to see one in person before I fully decide that. My dad had a 68 when I was a teenager and it was a blast to drive with the top off. If I read the specs correctly you cannot get the manual transmission with the bigger engine and that is a bit of a bummer.

Whomever at GM that got to choose to put the Blazer name on their current rendition of that needs a beating. Blazer's are 2 door gosh darn it! Come up with a new name, don't ruin an old one. The last GM designs that really got me going were the Australian Holden stuff but even then I wasn't totally sold on using the GTO name on some of those cars. I'd like to have one of those GTO's though.

When the new Challenger came out and I saw the first one I was like "Wow!" When I saw the first new Camaro I was like, "Ok, not that excited."

Maybe Ford will but a dent in the Fiat (Jeep) sales as people are paying crazy money for Jeeps these days and the people I have known that have gotten them I feel like every one of them overpaid for what they got. Not that the new Jeeps are totally bad, just badly overpriced IMO. I'm an old Jeep guy and for off roading I think Jeep had it together in the 1975-1976 CJ5's and 7'. Love those.

Re: Bronco retro

You are not kidding on the jeep prices. They are good off road but ride pretty poorly. At 50k for some of them I would just get a diesel truck then buy a side by side to play in. We have a jeep and it goes no farther than town but usually its just to the mail box or neighbors. You need a 4x4 for our driveway.

Re: Bronco retro

GM really dropped the ball with the current soccer mom Blazer. If they had brought the old style back, like Ford with the Bronco, I would have bought one. GM totally blew it.

Ford is targeting the Jeep market, they have no worries from GM, with all the soccer mom offerings!
I have over $3000 in GM cash on my GM card and see nothing that appeals to me.

They sure did. The CTS(-V) and more recently the ATS(-V) are good examples.

I'd like to have a newer Caddy too. But I like my land yacht. (More like a land barge) Nothing new rides like them.

My friend bought a new Mustang. It's nice. It's fast. But it's not the same as my 1970. Two different animals.

The retro Bronco will be the same as the FJ was. Not the same. And look at Land Rovers. They used to be tough. Now they're just Jaguar's with 4 wheel drive.

Re: Bronco retro

I think you all are being awfully hard on GM, all over not matching Ford with a retro SUV, which Ford just now is coming out with. You do realize that just because you want a retro Blazer does not mean the mass market does. There may be a more recently expanded appreciation of older vehicles, but most people, even now, want something new. Heck, put "New and improved" on a laundry detergent container or any other househoild product and marketing history shows sales go up. Do you even know that the new Blazer is an awful vehicle or is it only you are disappointed it's not a retro-styled K/5? I don't really like any new vehicle. I don't pay them any mind. Reason being my modern vehicle is still a GMT400. I have had no reason to move away from them YET, because i'm more aboput good well built vintage than modern with retro style. I don't know about you all, but I'd be happy driving nothing but '72s, if not for living where salt is used on the roads. This reminds me of what I would say when the Harley thing was booming and dudes were taking new Heritage Softails, which was a retro of the Panhead, and doing all they could to make it a wannabe Panhead. Even fake rocker boxes and timing covers. I would say, If you want to ride a pan, be man enough to ride one. put all those parts on and you still have a new Evo with a warranty

I totally agree, but when I went looking for a decent one that I could put a little money into and drive cross-country, about all I could find was trucks with 200K++ miles and virtually nothing that was a single cab long bed 2500 HD. I suddenly actually needed the pickup so I found a 2016 work truck trade-in at the Chevy dealer. Hopefully it will last me until I no longer need a pickup.

I was hoping the new Ford Bronco would give Jeep a run for their money since they basically have no competition for the Wrangler. Lots of handy doo-dads but if you really want to go off road you will want a solid front axle and not IFS. I've even considered a Wrangler Sport for my wife to get to town for shopping and back, but the quality aspect has me thinking more about a used 4Runner. With the roads out here our car is only good for about three months out of the year. We have a 32 year old Cherokee but I never know what is going to go wrong with it next.

Re: Bronco retro

I can't say I'm a really big fan of the "new" Bronco. I don't don't despise it as much as the "new" Jeep Gladiator, but it's a close second.

I'm a little disappointed in Ford over it. I think they took a good opportunity and wasted it. They took a Ranger chassis and put an SUV body on it. Wait a second, didn't they do that once before?
