Testing Tach Cluster Not Installed

I have a tach/air pressure cluster I got out of a C-60 a while back and am getting around to trying to see if the tach works. My service manual does not appear to show how the tach was installed. The tach has two connections, one for 12V and one for the coil. Is it as easy as running a wire to the coil (negitive side)and switched 12V connection? Seems like there needs to be a ground somewhere. I am use to hooking up my dwell meter to ground and the coil so I just want to make sure I don't fry the tach (if it isn't already fried). Thanks.

On mine there was a stud just under the two flat connectors. It's not labled, but I assumed that was ground. It works fine with my ground hooked up there.

the tach, is grounded through the housing. You should be able to run a ground wire from any of the screws that hold the cluster together. There may be a seperate ground terminal on the back of the cluster.

Good Luck...

Thanks for the reply's. Mine has the stud also so I will ground it there. I will test it tomorrow. Hope it works but I can't complain if it doesn't, I only paid $35 for the whole cluster. It has a bad printed circuit and a little yellowing but other than that it is OK.
