Gas tank neck
Does anybody sell just the gas tank neck. I am removing tank from behind seat but am not doing body work at this time. I am afraid to cut neck off of existing tank.

Re: Gas tank neck
I seen one post the fellow welded a bolt to the gas cap used a bar and a wing nut to secure the gas cap to the truck
It serves double duty close the hole and wont allow a gas station attendant to fill your cab with gas safety feature |

Re: Gas tank neck
Fill the tank with water up to the bottom of neck and cut it off. It want blow up with water in it! You can even turn a fan on and keep the neck in the wind stream.

Re: Gas tank neck
Can you use a Pipe cutter? it doesn't generate any heat to worry about..

Re: Gas tank neck
My tank was outside for about a year open to the elements. I didn't even think of sparks or heat when I took my sawzall to it last month.

Re: Gas tank neck
Depending upon the year, it may not be necessary to remove the filler neck. I removed the tank from behind the seat of my 70 C-30 as one piece.

Re: Gas tank neck
You can see this in my build thread post #13, https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=782232
I decided to keep the original fuel fill hole. I welded a stud onto the back of the fuel cap and used some washers to double-nut it in place. I didn't want to hack off the original filler from the tank, so I don't have any of the filler neck showing.

Re: Gas tank neck
This is great. How did you keep from burning the finish off the cap while welding?

Re: Gas tank neck
The stud doesn't touch the outer part of the cap. There's an inner part of the cap that I could weld to.
