83 C30 2wd Heavy Duty vs Non-Heavy Duty Front Suspension?

I have an 83 C30 2wd that I am going to lower using one of Todd’s at Lowboys static kits, add 22” Alcoas and so on.

I am trying to get the front end suspension piece, ball joints, tie rod ends etc before my kit shows up so I can rebuild the front end and not have to wait for parts.

I want to purchase all Moog parts and when I look online, they list both a
Premium OE Replacement; with Heavy Duty Suspension; Bolt On Control Arm Shaft
Premium OE Replacement; without Heavy Duty Suspension; Smooth Control Arm Shaft

I do not have the truck here right in front of me right now, what is the difference between these two?

Apparently, the Control Arm Shaft is either smooth or a bolt-on.

What is the “Heavy Duty Suspension” on a C30?

The bolt on (I believe) would be for the P chassis which had flat mounted lower pivot assy versus the round smooth shaft that takes the u-bolts

Re: 83 C30 2wd Heavy Duty vs Non-Heavy Duty Front Suspension?

Went and checked my truck. It has the U-bolts for the lower control arms, so it is the standard duty 1-ton (non Heavy Duty)

Took awhile as parts stores don't answer the phones around here due to the world shutting down, so I found an online (eBay) retailer.

What I ordered is listed here all Moog except the Pitman arm;

RK622888 Front Left Upper - Control Arm and Ball Joint Assembly
RK622887 Front Right Upper - Control Arm and Ball Joint Assembly
RK620036 Front Left Lower- Control Arm and Ball Joint Assembly
RK620037 Front Right Lower - Control Arm and Ball Joint Assembly

ES409LT Tie Rod End (needs 2) Inner
ES409RT Tie Rod End (needs 2) Outer
ES2004S Tie Rod End Adjusting Sleeve (req 2)

K6247T Idler Arm (1)

K6142 Pitman Arm (1) - Replaced with Mevtech

While these are Moog parts, they are not Moogs top-tier parts. Anything w/the RK designation is just a replacement part comparable to other brands. Moogs 'Problem Solver' line-up are the ones you want. They will require you to rebuild what you have as they don't offer them in an "assembly".

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

I think the dual rear wheels is heavy duty and the single rear wheels is regular duty for a 30.

Well....., that sucks as I already ordered and paid for them, so hopefully they last awhile!

I was going to keep my A-arms and clean them up for the future bag install (much later date) so that is good to know.

Where do I get the "Moog Problem Solver" parts at?

I used to have a couple of real good local parts houses that had car guys at the counter. Now I can't get anyone to answer a phone, just a prerecorded message stating that Covid has reduced their workforce.

I do still need to order the rear leaf spring bushings, companies like LMC show one part number and the Moog site lists two different P/Ns
*Are these the correct P/Ns?

Part Number: SB351
Product: Leaf Spring Bushing
Position: Rear Forward
.575 in x 1.75 in x 3.00 in

Part Number: SB335
Product: Leaf Spring Shackle Bushing
Position: Rear Lower

The 'Problem Solver' series of parts has that nomenclature in the description. The lower tier line, while still being 'good' parts, don't carry the lifetime warranty they would offer & have the 'RK' pre-fix. I don't believe they offer every product for each specific tier. When I was searching for front end parts on my '99 3/4 ton OBS, I found the Problem-Solver tier was only available for parts that had to be installed & not available for the control arm "assemblies".

I'm not up to date on the leaf bushings. Removing the leaf set-up was in my plan from day-1 so mine would ride better. HD leaf packs just don't ride good when unloaded (which is 90% of the time for mine).
