Bench testing an AM cheverolet radio?
I picked up a radio and I was interested in learning how to bench test it. Its supposed to be a 1966 year. I have seen later year model how to's but I was hoping someone could step me through the bench test setup so I dont damage anything or myself.
The truck is being restored so everything is disassembled. |

Re: Bench testing an AM cheverolet radio?
I called Greg at Turnswitch
http://www.turnswitch.com/ and he helped me get this thing bench tested and thought I would share. I think the pics show it but it goes like this First I had the original antenna and connected it to the back of the radio, then.. Battery neg post to radio body for ground Battery pos post to the middle tab connector at the base of the back radio The white alligator clip I have is on the middle speaker tab of the connector and on the positive wire from the speaker which should be an 8 ohm speaker not a 4 ohm. I had a 6 ohm rated speaker and made a quick test to see, I didnt run it long to potentially cause any damage to the unit since the resistors are meant for 8 ohms. The lastly the smaller back alligator clip cable I have was connected to the neg wire of the speaker and clipped to be grounded to the radio case And I was stoked to find that it is in working condition!!! So thankful to Greg for the help!!!! |

I also found that the light bulb was missing, you pry it from the base with a flat head screwdriver and out pops the bulb housing. Then I happened to have a bulb that fit and that worked too!
