Parking Brake handle Repair?

Is there a repair for the emergency brake handle? Mine no longer wants to stay ratcheted tight when I apply the brake.
Looks like the rivets are wearing out.

Re: Parking Brake handle Repair?

I took mine apart and welded the little pin that guides the arm along. The ratcheting problem may be wear-related, though. I might have a picture of what I did. I'll take a look right now.

Re: Parking Brake handle Repair?

Well, this is the only picture I took. I thought I took another, but maybe not.

That little pin sitting on top is just pressed in from the factory, so after 50 years mine was falling out and my parking brake would either get stuck on or refuse to stay on. Once I welded it in and lubed that sucker up it’s been working great for 6 months now. Smooth as butter!

Sorry that the pic isn’t the best, but if you pull yours off, which is pretty simple, you’ll see. There’s a pin and a cotter pin holding the cable onto the handle.

When I had it off I blasted it and got it all cleaned up just because it needed some TLC.
