96 Z71 remote door lock question.

When I bought my truck a while back the po said it originally came with remotes but he didn't have them. It does have power locks that work from the buttons. I got a remote but when I try to program it like the video on YouTube, when I connect pin 4 to pin 8 nothing happens. I'm thinking it never came with remotes and doesn't have the receiver. Anyone know how to tell if it does or doesn't have the remote capability. I'd like to get them working if possible. I've got a service manual ordered but it will be over a week before it comes.
