No-scar shortbed conversions?

I've seen a few guys that have figured out how to shorten long bed trucks without having any exterior cut and weld lines to metalfinish or paint. Anyone here done it this way and have any photos of the process?

I personally haven't shortened one but I have seen it done, you have to separate the rear cap from bed, shorten it and reweld cap on, front you shorten it and fold lip over to reweld. MetalOx Fab on IG has a video you can buy but I don't know if this way is on that video.

Re: No-scar shortbed conversions?

It's the end cap part that I'm having a hard time visualizing. I have been studying where the spot welds are located to get an idea of how it all goes together. Looks like I'd have to peel away the outer stake pocket to get to the inner structure, then remove that to get to the seam between the cap and the bed side. Some photos of that all peeled apart would give me some confidence.

I've been waiting for the Metalox guys to do a 60-66 video but I'm getting impatient

Re: No-scar shortbed conversions?

The thing I keep struggling with is all the work it takes anyway you approach it, and then the wheel opening is still 3 inches longer than a real shortbed.

I asked him and he is working on it now, I don't know why I thought it was out already.

Re: No-scar shortbed conversions?

Sweet, thanks! I spent some time digging through his IG posts and I think I can see where he drills out the welds on the rear of the bed cap next to the tailgate, but the video would still be a good confidence booster.

Re: No-scar shortbed conversions?

This photo is also stolen from the internet and shows the inner structure of the rear stake pocket a little better. I might still go with this method and just blend the paint.

Prolly the best bet, I do a lot of metal work and I don't think I would want to take on a bed cap, unless I was scrapping it.

Doesn't matter what other people think. It's not -their- truck.
