Another steering question
After getting new tires on my 70 jimmy 4x4 I get a lot wandering on the road. I have A new steering box, new pump, new pitman arm, new adjustable linkage between pitmans and new rag joint, new column, tie rods seem ok as do the ball joints/bearings.
I keep reading about “adjusting” the bolt/nut on the steering box and would like more info on how to do it properly. My play seems to be mostly in the box itself I’m not noticing much else. Also my shocks are shot and I’m sure the stabilizer is too, so those are next with new springs. TIA |

Re: Another steering question
When you say a "new" steering box, are you talking about a newly-manufactured one or a rebuilt one from an auto parts house? If it's an auto parts rebuild, you might need to adjust the box. There's a large nut on top with an Allen-head bolt inside it. Loosen the nut, and turn the bolt to the right to tighten it. Be careful, a small adjustment goes a long way. Remember to retighten the nut.

Re: Another steering question
Incorrect toe adjustment can also help make it wander.

Re: Another steering question
Good suggestions. Basically if I have one hand on the wheel at 2 o’clock I have to go between 10 & 2 back and forth to keep it straight. I know some is normal but this is excessive that’s why I was thinking the steering box need adjustment. I think I got it from rock auto
