hubcap question
Does anyone have a good chronicle of what hubcaps came stock on the squarebody trucks? I've seen an earlier and a later style of dogdish, but I don't know where the split was, or if there were more styles than that.
I've found a excellent thread on this site for 60-66 hubcaps, but I haven't found anything for the 73-87 hubcaps.

Re: hubcap question
Quote:
For reference 1/2 ton caps measure 10.5" diameter and 3/4 ton caps are 11.75" 1969-1972 1973-75 (these are 3/4 ton) Same as 69-72 but with Ochre colored bowtie 73-75 3/4 ton GMC In 1976 they went to the next style, the flatter caps. Not 100% sure when they quit putting hubcaps on, perhaps all the way up till 89... That's more or less it in terms of dog dish caps. There were a few different full wheel covers seen on later suburbans and trucks, as well as ralley wheel center caps... But as far as dog dishes go... that's it.

Re: hubcap question
Thanks, that's perfect!
One thing I have noticed on the "spoke" style dogdish, is the 5-spoke caps fit the 15" 1/2-ton wheels, and the 6-spoke caps fit the 16" wheels on the heavier trucks. I don't know if this same thing applies to the 1973-1975 caps or not.

Re: hubcap question
Definitely correct for the later caps. 5-spoke = smaller OD for 1/2 ton wheels/caps; 6-spoke = larger OD for 3/4 or 1-ton.

Re: hubcap question
Yes, all true, however, the base model pickups continued to use the white painted '73-'75 style as standard equipment thru the '78 model year. In '79 to '87, all models came with the flatter caps

Re: hubcap question
One nuance about the early 73-75 3/4-1 ton PO3 caps is that there were concave (innie) and convex (outie) varieties of the yellow bow tie center. 67-72 PO3s for 3/4-1 ton were all convex outies. Convex 73-75 PO3s seem to be fairly uncommon, most that I’ve seen were concave. (and note all 1/2 ton PO3 caps are concave innies).
