Crazy Idea on Seat Spring Change
I have a '72 Custom Deluxe pickup with a very nice original seat cover. The seat has a broken side spring on the driver's side and it looks possible to change the spring from below without disturbing the cover and foam. Has anyone had success changing a spring from below??

Re: Crazy Idea on Seat Spring Change
I believe there’s a “clamp” type thing they use and interior shops to fix them

Re: Crazy Idea on Seat Spring Change
I replaced a spring on a 71 seat a while back. I don't believe it would be possible to replace the spring unless you made or purchased some special tools and had a lot of time to devote to the project.
Here is a link to the page on my repair thread scroll down to post 668. I have other pictures if you are interested. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...698377&page=27

Re: Crazy Idea on Seat Spring Change
Looking at a bare up-side-down seat frame, it looks like if the seat tracks were removed it would be possible to remove the broken spring parts and reinstall a new spring without disturbing the upholstery. I'll let you guys know if it somehow works!!

Re: Crazy Idea on Seat Spring Change
I don't see how removing the hog rings, carefully, would damage your cover. I also don't see how you will be able to properly secure the spring in place. It's a pretty physical process and if it isn't secured correctly it will not provide the support you would expect. It could also squeak. If your spring is broken, your foam is also probably worn. This is a great opportunity to fix the foam as well.
Good luck, anything is possible with enough luck, skill, or lowered expectations. |
