Pole Frame Garage
This garage is long overdue, but it is finally on its way. I really liked the steel frame that Jimmy built, but I wasn't confident enough that I had the time or the patience to construct it. This will be a 40x60x12.5 and the plan is to have it spray foam insulated. These pictures are from Day 1 (except the excavating, that was July). The boys saw them pulling in and begged me to let them stay home from school and watch. I figured they might learn some worthwhile skills by watching the Amish, rather than sitting in class wearing a face mask with a plexiglass cage around their desk and playing by themselves at recess. That's just me venting a little, i know teachers are important people in children's lives. It's the current conditions we are living in that frustrate me. Enough of that, on to the pictures. You can't see much from the side view, i just added that since the sunset was nice tonight. Crazy weather here in PA. Usually at this time I'm doing all i can to not turn the heat on until November 1st, but yesterday i put the AC on - 80 degrees and humid like it's August. Oh, and the kids also found the missing guinea - she came back with 15 keats.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
There is a 10' lean-to on the left side. I can already notice that i should have made that 16'. There are going to be four 10' wide doors across the front, evenly spaced. I opted for no glass in the overhead doors. I figured it could be a problem when i didn't want the sun glaring in. However, i do like the idea of being able to look out the front, which faces my driveway which is 460'. I was considering a man door between overhead door #2 and #3. Thoughts on this? Probably wouldn't look the best, but for functionality i think it would be nice. The other man door will be on the left side towards the front.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Good to see a shop going up at your place. I have been using the door under the lean to to go in and out. I think you will be fine with the door in the front. What are your plans for the ceiling? Finished and painted white will brighten up the inside a lot.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Most likely the ceiling and interior walls will be white metal. Still have to figure out the lighting and plumbing. I’ll need a sewage ejector pump to tie into the house.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Fantastic. I put LED's in my 30x40 when I put it up years ago. They are so much better now I am considering adding in a few of the newer ones to brighten it up. It's pretty good but not as bright as I would like in a few spots.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
I also put those lights in my garage and boathouse. As some of the reviewers noted, their mounts are nothing to brag about but I just put some tie wraps around them. The lights themselves are amazing. Been running them about 2 years now. No issues

Re: Pole Frame Garage
The plumbing and electric is laid from the house to the garage.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Curious, it looks like you live in the country. Am I right to assume you have a septic system? If so, how difficult was it for the contractor to tap into it? If you don't have a septic system then disregard this question. Thanks.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Given any thoughts to pulling a Cat5e or fiber cable to provide Internet network connection between house and shop? I know a lot of folks use phones for primary Internet but a cable would allow shop security cameras to save images to a drive in the house.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
I did the plumbing with some help of a buddy. I have a sand mound that is gravity fed from the opposite side of my house. I could not gravity feed from the garage to the house to tie into the system so i had to install a sewage ejector pump. This is the garbage can looking thing that is buried. It has a 4" inlet in the side of it, which is underground. The toilet and all drains tie into this. Once the tank fills and operates the float, the pump turns on and pumps into where i will tie it into my house system and then it will gravity drain like the house is designed. This is an ejector pump, not a grinder pump. it is important to use the correct one. If you have a city sewer, then a grinder pump is fine. If you have a sandmound, you want to use the ejector pump. The grinder pump will basically puree the waste before pumping it. Then your holding tanks that separate your solids and liquid will not be able to hold what used to be solid and you will pass on the solids to your sand, ruining the bed in time. With all that being said, it wasn't hard. I have a 1 1/4" pvc pipe that i am going to pull a 1/2" pex line in for the water supply and a 2” return waste line.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
I have 1 1/4" pipe that is for cat5 and coax, as well as a sewer, water, electric, and a spare. Easy to run more conduit when the ditch is open so i made sure i threw a spare in there. The garage doors will be wifi compatible so i plan on putting a router out there.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Got the lights for my shop and they work really good. Go three up on the wall about 9 feet up to get rid of the shadows and provide light from other than straight down. For the price they are hard to beat. How much have yo got done?

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Concrete went in yesterday. Do you feel those lights would be sufficient at 12’ height?

Re: Pole Frame Garage
I'll post some pictures. With my high ceilings the combination of the UFO and the new leds work well. For the height you have I think the 8 foot leds may work really good. For the money I would order a box of 10 and do some testing. You can hook up to three together.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
The Amish finished a few weeks ago. The garage took a back seat until I finish two bedrooms we remodeled for the boys. Hoping to get on the ceiling liner next week. The walls are getting foamed tomorrow. I'm still undecided on the ceiling insulation. I'm thinking about trying this https://www.insulation4less.com/insu...l-48-inch.aspx

Re: Pole Frame Garage
I picked up this drywall lift to assist with the ceiling liner. It's a big help if you're working alone or only have one helper. The sheets are about 20'

Re: Pole Frame Garage
I have seen that insulation in places but don't have any experience on how well it works. For the cost of that stuff you may be able to get your insulation contractor to put R30 above your sheeting.

$2400 for blown in R38. I think that might be a pain if i ever need to access it in the future.
