Clear coat on a new master cylinder
I just put a brake master cylinder in my 73 Jimmy. After thoroughly cleaning it, I applied 2 coats of clear coat (like I always do) before bench bleeding it.
It occurred to me, not everybody realizes this is an option. I have been clear coating new master cylinders for ...20 years, maybe? I thoroughly clean the outside of the master cylinder with brake clean, let it dry, and spray it with 2 coats of clear spray paint. It ain't perfect, but it does add some level of rust prevention. I have had master cylinders that were [at least] 5 years old with almost zero rust. Anyways just thought I'd share that tip. Results may vary -Russ

Only if you spill the brake fluid ;-)
I cleared the natural aluminum intake on one of my 350s 25 years ago. Still looks great. |

Re: Clear coat on a new master cylinder
Clear coated many iron masters even back in the day when I was a tech at a Chev dealer ship. The service manager gave me the tip. If you get some brake fluid on it its easy to clean and touch up. Rusty masters are not pretty.

I clear coated my original 307 valve covers on my first 68 42 years ago and they never had a hint of rust.

Re: Clear coat on a new master cylinder
I shot mine with SPI epoxy. Its only had fluid in it for a few months and I don't think I spilled any but it looks great.

Re: Clear coat on a new master cylinder
Yeah.... But AZ has that "dry-heat" so it's only 'patina' out on the West Coast LoL.
