Vacuum gauge from 66 Oldsmobile how to remove the needle and mount screws?
I lucked out and found an Oldmobile vacuum gauge and was planning to make the modification to my cluster but I can not seem to get the needle off or the tiny little nuts off that mount it. Anyone done the modification and can share the tricks? I dont want to damage the needle or mounting nuts. I have an electronics repair kit and the mini socket 3.0 almost fits and the 3.5 is too big.
I saw this in Chevyrestoguys thread (his pic above) and I did send him a PM but if anyone else has a how to on both the issues I mentioned please let me know. Here is the spot in his build thread that shows how he did it. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ch#post4818388 Last edited by msg; 10-28-2020 at 11:40 PM. |

Needle should come off with a small fork. Tines under needle, lever it up and off the post.

Thanks Jay, I did have success with 2 spoons and popping it up with pressure. That needle had some extra gunk that really made it snug. I had sprayed wd rust penetrator as well. I also sprayed it on those mounting nuts too.

I did use the fork though after cutting the edging from the plate so I could jam it in and use it as a wrench. The wife is not happy about the utensils but I'm thrilled it solved that problem.

Glad it worked. A fork is great to have in the box.
