Talking Always something...

I was trying to figure out why the ramp truck has such a bad gas fume smell after being closed up for a few day's ever since I had the tank all redone. I got to looking at the tank and neck to see if there was any problems but couldn't find anything. I installed new filler grommet with the tank install. I started looking at the sending unit and figured I would tighten the fuel sender a little more since it didn't look all the way tight. I took it out and put some Dow Corning 111 on the o-ring first. So I get it back together and I closed the doors and let it sit for about 3 hrs today. Opened the door and the smell was barely noticeable. So I figured I had it and cranked it up to put it back in the backyard where it stays and guess what...no fuel gauge reading! WTH is wrong now??? I checked everything and it all checked out wiring wise. I finally decided it had to be the sender so I turned the key on and made one tap on the sender unit lock ring backwards to loosen it up and it came back on! I guess I got it to tight....

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Clean up the lock ring and the tank flange for a better ground contact
Guage should then read when lock ring fully engaged

For a small reading item it does not take much corrosion or dirt to disturb the reading

The smell is not near as bad as it was but it's still there. I got everything working again so that's a plus! I don't know why the smell is so bad though. It never smelled before.
