Clutch suggestions

Any suggestions on a good clutch with stock pedal feel that would survive behind my new 383 engine? (around 400hp/450 ft-lbs) This is going in a 77 C10 with the factory HD 3 speed Muncie. I think this has the 10 spline input shaft (unsure on diameter until I tear into it.) 168 tooth flywheel. Thanks.

Re: Clutch suggestions

you might call McCleod clutches.

https://www.mcleodracing.com/

i have called them on a clutch on my chevy II street / strip car. they make a good product. for that matter, call any clutch manufacturer, advance clutches, centerforce, zoom, etc

tell them the combination you have, and they can probably help you out.

i think that would be better than ordering a pressure plate and disc from jegs or summit

good luck.

Re: Clutch suggestions

Would my application have a 10.5 or 11" clutch stock?

Re: Clutch suggestions

you might try rockauto and see what your options are, that might get you in the right direction. IF its a stock vehicle.

you might research the VIN number and or the glovebox sticker.

last resort is pull the manual trans out to verify

good luck

Re: Clutch suggestions

With the 400 crank in the 383 you may even be able to run a 12'' clutch (11-7/8'') should have the 14'' flywheel which is 168 tooth. Get a quality diaphragm style. I've just got a NAPA clutch behind my 454 which is made by Valeo and it performs great, but I don't hammer on it.

Re: Clutch suggestions

my truck has a mechanical clutch/bell crank and 4 speed saginaw from a Camaro but the pedal out of a 79 dump truck it works and was cheap but I slide around and its weird due to stock seat/ steering wheel/ clutch configuration.. so I would investigate into a hydro clutch and buckets with a tilt wheel
