Where to disconnect steering column

About to perform a cab lift and not sure the correct procedure on disconnecting the steering column.

Should I mark the position on the column?

At the rag joint? Or further up at that bolt by the shift linkage?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thanks!

Disconnect at the rag joint, then you can disconnect at the clamp at the base of the steering column where it comes through the firewall. I mark the shaft and the steering box input shaft to keep from 180 degrees out upon install.

Thumbs up Re: Where to disconnect steering column

I'd just take it loose at the shifter linkage. It can only go back on one way where the bolt slides through. No reason to take it a part 2 times just to pick the cab up. Less stuff to have hanging.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

That looks like a 67 - 1 piece shaft , It's not coming apart .

Grumpy wins! My 68 had this style shaft and it was a pain to get out. I was lucky enough that the bearings in my column were so shot that they had enough play to pull out through the cab and out the driver side door.

Yes it is a 67 shaft. If it doesn’t disassemble should the entire assembly come out?

Re: Where to disconnect steering column

You can just disconnect it at the steering box rag joint and lift , What are your plans ?

Great. Thanks grumpy!
I picked up a 67 swb from the state of Iowa DNR services. It’s all original just need to be brought back to life. I’m not going to the extent to restore it for shows but to get it mechanically back together and swap the inline 6 over to a mild 350/ 4 speed Muncie. This is my first complete tear down so I’ll be learning along the way. Here are a few pics.
