C10 5.3/Th400 Swap, engine tilted too far?
Hey guys! Im working on my 5.3/th400 install still, I noticed that it seems like it rocks back pretty far when the transmission is on the cross member mount. Is there a general angle you should have your engine and transmission sitting at? If it's too low can I shim the transmission mount up some?

You can shim it up. What angle is it at right now?

What year is the truck, and what engine mounts and trans crossmember are you using?
Pics could be handy, just in case there's something glaringly obvious. Particularly a photo of the transmission mount & crossmember.

I try to get the angle at 3deg down at the trans end...but it needs to match numerically the up angle of the diff

I need to get a angle reader so I can find out what the exact number is. I have a 1970 c10, I'm using the stock motor mounts, ict conversion plates, and a trans adapt transmission xrossmember

The digital ones are nice to use. There are cheaper than this one out there. |

I've got a assortment of digital levels that I got off ebay... and I've got several of the swing type like listed above at cardboard freight... I prefer the digitals myself..

Re: C10 5.3/Th400 Swap, engine tilted too far?
Wouldn't we all? But for a tool that's going to be used once, and probably never touched again, I'm not sure that preference really factors in here.
I would have some concerns with accuracy with the cheap pendulum gauges though. Another thought, is to grab a piece of angle iron, and drill a couple of holes in it so it can be bolted to the pinion yoke or to a flat surface on the trans/t-case. Print off a paper protractor, paste that onto the angle iron, and suspend a weight in front of it. The larger your printed protractor is, the better the accuracy will be. I'll either use the HF gauge or the DIY method when I set up my pinion angle. The digital ones aren't worth the cost to me for as little as I'll use it.

The pendulum ones can be hard to read if you need get your head up in an awkward position to look straight at the dial. The digital ones you can get it set and hit the hold button and bring it out to where you can read it.
