Build sheet remove or keep it? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Found a build sheet under the bench. Looks pretty fragile so wondering if it’s best to just keep it there or is there a good way to get it out. Super cool find.

The seat in my truck was replaced by the previous owner, so I don't have a build sheet. I wish I had one

The one I took out of my 1972 Chevelle SS convertible was in much worse shape than that. I took it out piece by piece, Scotch taped it back together and then had it laminated. Came out great!

If you can pull it out safely it's now or never. Personally I'd make a copy of it for your truck and store the original away.

the build sheet on my '67 was glued to the fuel tank...no removing it, lol

although it's a ford seat, my very well be worth decoding to reunite with the right truck/owner.. if this is a possibility you may entertain to complete someone else's ford project, may be better to just leave it there.. you never know, may be guy out there looking for a genuine seat just like a lot of us are..

before anymore handling, I would take a few high resolution pictures at different angles around the springs for reference in case it crumbles.. might even be worth writing down the data in their respective form fields for your or someone else's research..

if you decide to remove it, a helper may improve your odds of success.. with the gracious assistance from Mr.s Bee, we were able to use four hands to remove both copies from the red longhorn seat, one in the back and one in the bottom.. gently compressing the foam while lifting the springs allowed us to coax the papers out with little damage..

there was even a copy in the glove box but it suffered a lot of loss around the fold areas.. fortunately, I was able to overlay a couple of them to create a complete copy

Just saying Ford over-engineered their build sheets. Keep it simple, so what do they do instead but build a build sheet like they do a Ford.

My 67's was carefully taken out photocopied and and then placed back under the seat. It is still in amazing condition. This is the copy.

You could do the same possibly.

I’ll get as much info from it as-is. Would be cool to find its owner but how does one begin the search? Can you imagine if someone did that for one of your trucks. That would be a super score!

It doesn’t do any good sitting behind the seat. I would take a high-quality photo of it, do your best to get it out carefully, tape the pieces back together and laminate it.

Wow, you pull it young or never use the truck

My 72 has one behind the seat, it's folded in half. Just a touch it crumbles, I'll likely never read it and it's not worth pulling the seat - knowing the truck I'd probably snap a bolt

This one is off my 71, which was under the seat. Truck was garaged quite a bit. I'm putting the copy back in, something to be said for a good sheet protector. If ever wondered what an original "S" looked like, pretty sure anyway, I found it on the floor with the clip.
