Hooker pictures!

Not that kind of Hooker, you perverts!

The kind the brown truck brings.

Hooker Comps, Jet-Hot coated for my big block conversion saga.

That funny bend cradles the starter. It's less than 3/8 inch from the starter.

Up till now, I've always been very happy with Hooker headers. We'll see.....wouldn't it be great if I had to buy one of those little mini starters after spending 3 hours re-building mine last night? (I'm being sarcastic, it wouls suck to have to buy a new starter).

Ragenrat- are you saying that you had a set like this, with the funny bend? I figured it was defective. Are all Hooker truck headers supposed to be shaped like this?

Could I please see a pic of your Chevelle units? I might have to buy some of them.

Thumbs up

I PUT HOOKER COMPS. ON MY 71 WITH A 468 IN IT. NO CLEARANCE PROBLEMS AT ALL WITH A FULL SIZE, STOCK G.M. STARTER. THEY FIT LIKE A DREAM WITH PLENTY OF CLEARANCE AROUND THE FRAME. HOOKER COMPS, SUPER COMPS & DOUG THORLYS, ARE THE ONLY HEADERS I WOULD CONCIDER USING. AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED ALL THOSE $79 HEADERS ARE A WASTE OF EFFORT & MONEY. I THOUGHT THE FUNNY LOOKING BENDS IN A COUPLE OF THOSE TUBES WERE FOR STARTES CLEARANCE ALSO. THAT & SO ALL THE TUBES WERE TO BE THE SAME LENGTH. (THATS BEEN HOOKERS CLAIM TO FAME FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER, & I'M 45) JOHN

TXFIREFIGHTER ---- I REALIZE THEY ARE...... I WASN'T INSINUATING OTHER WISE (SORRY IF YOU THOUGHT I WAS). I'VE BEEN HAPPY WITH COMS & SUPER COMPS. & HAVE NEVER HAD A CLEARANCE PROBLEM. NOW DON'T GET ALL DEFENSIVE & BENT OUT OF SHAPE, BUT DO YOU HAVE THEM TIGHTENED UP ALL THE WAY??? BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T, THAY WILL SAG & TOUCH THE MOTOR. JOHN

John, I'm very sorry if I offended you. I'm dealing with a bit of fury concerning these things. I installed the gasket and tightened them down, I have about 1/8 to 1/4 clearance between the pan and header now. Is that going to blister the paint on the pan?

This having to buy a mini-starter is disapointing for sure.

Again, John, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to come across a a jerk.

NO PROBLEM. IF YOU USED GOOD HIGH HEAT ENGINE PAINT I DOUBT THAT IT WILL BLISTER YOUR PAINT. LIKE I SAID BEFORE ... HOOKER & DOUG THORLEY HEADERS ARE THE BEST ONES MADE IN MY OPINION, & I WOULDN'T CONCIDER USING ANYTHING ELSE. I'M SURE YOU'LL BE HAPPY WITH THEM, & IF YOUR NOT..... YOU'LL BE THE FIRST PERSON I'VE EVER HEARD OF THATS NOT. JOHN

These are Headman ceramic. They are the only ones I found that fit a 4x4 4spd manual. I did have to torque the pass side to get it to clear the starter and front differential but I am with you on the money they cost 300+ delivered. They should have fit without any problems. In this world of old trucks I find that sometimes you have to give a little or sacrafice a little to have anything that is decent.

Used Hedmans on my 502--2" tubes with 3"collectors. Fit like a glove . Did not have remove anything or raise motor to install from below (except sparkplugs). $215 for headers-$217 for Jet-Hot coating.

P.S. -plenty of starter clearance.(had to add a high torque later because stock 402 starter was not up to the task--Powermaster mini)

You won't have a problem with the paint melting I had a set of jethot coated dynomaxes and one of the plug wire boots was up against a tube and it never melted or discolored. They say the coating reduces the temp by 75%, I belive them.

Hey Tx Firefighter, Are you going to have any ground clearance issues with your exhaust since the truck is so low? I know the full lengths on my 350 hang to low right for my 4" drop. Maybe you have lower speed bumps around there? :p

Hey Kevin, I've got a pair of Hedman 3/4 length Chevelle headers for the 468 in Daisycutter. They seem to fit OK, but I've only held them in place...haven't bolted them down yet.
