I have a 1967 Chevy C-10, Stepside, shortbed.

I need some ideas on how I can install a CD player in it, without cutting, or tearing up the dash, it has the origional radio in it, and I dont want to take it out.

I have been told to put a custom center console in the floor and put my cd player in it, it would hide the wires and what-not. Its a bench seat.

If you have any ideas on this truck at all, I would really apreciate it!

Consider using a newer head unit ("radio") that is meant to fit in the dash (Wes & GMCPaul have these in stock, as well as other places).

Im really kind of looking at a CD player, I have looked at those at GMC Pauls, as a matter of fact, I just ordered $130 worth of stuff week before last. Im looking for something thats not going to kill my wallet too, know what I mean.

Best way I have found to afford something like that is: have an overall plan, and buy only stuff that fits the plan, IE/ will this head unit allow future use of amplifier(s)/ multiple speakers/CD changer/ equalizer, ect? That assumes expanding in the future. Wes or Paul, either one, can be very helpfull in expalining what these extra components do, and which head unit is best for any futere expansion. good luck

I've also seen a conversion that you could have done to the original radio to turn it into a head unit for the cd player. I think it was in an issue of Classic Trucks or Custom Classic Trucks, someone else on the board may have seen this also.

Have you ever heard of the kick panels, that fit near your floor, to put speakers in? Im considering putting a pair of those in, I didn't know how they would sound, or look.

On the kick panels, I have them in my truck. I have them covered in the same carpet that is on my floor. If you get them I would recomend putting some padding of some kind behind the panels so they won't rattle from the vibrations of the speaker. After covering them with the carpet don't have a rattle anymore.
For the cd player, You could always install it in the glovebox. That way it is out of sight. The only thing would obviously controling it and changing cds is a little more complicated. There are a few guys on here that have done the glovebox install. Good luck on your descision, Let us know what you end up doing.

I will proabally cover them in carpet too.

Wouldnt putting them in the glove box be a pretty big hassle, I mean, changing cd's, turning stations, volume. Wouldnt you have to take your eyes off the road for a while, and lean over.

This is a board members idea - not mine, but it is what I am thinking of doing. You can install a infrared repeater outside the glovebox that way you can power on and change channels without opening the glovebox door. Then you can get the original AM and keep it in the dash...looks slick in my opinion. Here is the website to order a infrared repeater:

you could put an am/fm cassette radio that fits in the dash that also has the accessory plug which runs to a CD changer located under the seat ot behind it or depending on how much stuff ya haul in the glove box even there

Zack, I think all of the kickpanels are made by the same company "custom autosound". They will hold either a 5 1/4" or 6 1/2" speaker. Oh by the way, I'm in the Moore area. I really didn't have the problem of finding an install spot as you can see, from the pic.

With the glove box install, I don't like the idea of bending over to the glovebox either but, I know that there are a few guys here that have done it. If It was me and I didn't want to slice the dash up I would do like some of the pics above and install it in it's own little box under the dash.

Three small holes behind the G box's piano hinge will hold a piece of wood or steel! Then you can mount anything you want in there!
