Thumbs up 64 SS Impala

I have bought about 15 of these mirrors out of the local yards here in Greenville SC. They all work. Some better than others. I have them in all my vehicles now.

I just finished installing this one in my 64 SS Impala. It has the 3 button home link, compass & temperature read out plus they are auto dimming so no more flipping the mirror up.
I had to find a swivel mount that is in the pictures so it will move around. I also had to make a piece to attach them together. I'm going to be making one for the factory 71-72 truck mirror mount as well.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: 64 SS Impala

I do the same thing with GM compass/temp mirrors, but none of them have homelink. What are you getting them off of?

Nissan's. Rogues and other high end vehicles. 177 Gentx are the older model, now it's a 453 model. They are the same mirror just newer the wiring the same.
I have even figured out how to change the color of the read out in them.

I had never look that close at it sir until you asked about it. But you are right. It does have the stars in it. I took some pictures.

Re: 64 SS Impala

I replaced the headliner in my 63 years ago.
The only issue with original headliner it had spots that would not clean up.
I put white shoe polish on it till I saved up the money
I remember them well

As far as I know the whole inside is original. Its got a few places in it but over all its in good condition. I drive it a good bit when the weather is nice.
I took the dash out to install the tach and tilt wheel. I painted the dash, tach housing, steering column and re did the steering wheel myself.
I also took the console out and painted it and installed new emblems and got all the wiring straighted out in it.

More pictures of it. Most of the things I've done want be noticed by many but they make driving it much better. Tilt steering with power steering gear box not the factory assist steering, power disc brakes up front, AC changed over to 134-A. Ac blows cold 36* on low. Installed internal voltage regulator alternator like in the trucks using truck brackets. Installed all LED brake lights & 3 brake light on the back window. H-4 head lights. All the dash lights are LED also. I painted the console like the other parts with spray can.

Only thing I wish it had now was a 700-R4 transmission to get better gas mileage. But the power glide is in good shape so it will stay for now.

Take the mirror a part. Take the mirror out of the housing. The 2 pieces you take the pigtail loose and separate them. The digital read out has a blue plastic lens over it. Its barely glued on. I bought red lens fix it at O-Riellys. I cut it the same size as the old and stick it on it. Simple easy mod.

I wanted to pick your brain to see if I'm overlooking anything. I'm in the same place with my '67 Camaro powerglide. Have you considered a TH 200-R4 instead of a 700? There was an article in Hot Rod recently that detailed what Art Carr does to 200's to make them "superior"(?) to a 700.

https://www.hotrod.com/articles/ccrp...mission-build/

The '72 C10 in my avatar has a 700-R4 and I have no complaints, but the Camaro is smaller, etc., and seems like it would be a good fit. And not having to shorten the driveshaft would be nice.

Either or to me sir. My 2 700-R4's I've have had no issues at all. The first one I did for my 71 C-10 had over 300,000 miles on it when I pulled it. The 2 one I sold it before I finished it. I've never owned a vehicle with a 200-R4 so I can't really talk about them. Both trucks had stock motor's also. The SS also has stock 350.
