I'd like to know as well. My truck has been wired for the newer alt but I can't find one that uses the plug I have and is clocked right.

you can get a pigtail to adapt just about anything. go look at an alternator for a 95 or so truck or tahoe im pretty sure they are at 12 and 6 and are a one wire from what i remember. you will just have to swap the pullies mark. the wiring on these trucks is very simple anyways not hard to adapt things in.ratrod just change the wiring if you find one with the right clock position

Just re-clock it! It's easy, just don't lose the brushes when they come flying out.

Ok. I used a alt out of a 1979 suburban. You need the pig tail for that year alt, and of course that alt. Then you just have to install the new style pig tail in place of the old one. Then jump the wires at the regulator like in the picture. And walla!! Internal city.

As far as thast pig tail wiring goes you want to picture the alts side by side and replace the wire on the left, with the one on the left, and the one on the right with the one on the right. Keep it same side by side. Make sence? If not let me know.

I have had my truck wired this way for about 4 years now and have not had a single problem.

Oh and by the way, at the regulator, that is just 2 wires that have spade terminals on each end. And use a dielectric grease on them before you crimp them to keep corrsion out.

This kit is a "plug & play" installation. No wires to cut, no plugs to go find, no jumpers to make. Just plug it into a 73 & newer Chev alternator. Email me if you would like one.

alternators

We did a long waterpump conversion and used a old 63 amp alternator. The one interesting thing is this:
early int. alternators are 63 amp
78- 86 alternators could be wired up to 78 amp
The 84 camaro used an optional 94 amp alternator that is the same 10si case and has the traditional 1v belt.
If you want the camaro alt, ask for it at the parts house. Usually its at thier warehouse store. ( part no#7294)

Mark,

You want to use a 10SI Alternator. If you have an old one, buy the parts to rebuild it....then when it's apart, you can spray can the case for detailing. I ordered my rebuild parts from here and I upgraded to 140 amp. It didn't cost much and it was easy.

I then bought a pigatil for athe alternator and to bypass the old regulator from these guys

Good luck.
