Talking Shocking thing happened to me the other day!!

I was driving along, when I started to approach a stop sign. No sweat, time to gear down...I push the clutch in, and WHAM! the SOB hits the floor - and is stuck there!!! This was my face:

Of course, I have the truck stuck in gear, and my clutch hiding in the firewall, so I pull over to the nearest spot to check it out. Turns out the damn linkage desided to disassemble itself while I was driving It was easy to get home, I just put the linkage back together (it let go under dash) and held it together with one hand (shaking due to bumps, or clutching seperated the linkage) and drove with the other.

Shocking to have it happen though!!!

I can agree with huck on that one. A friend and i have built a couple trucks that we take to the desert. We quickly found out that was a weak spot. I think our first run we lost the clutch, broke a motor mount and had a flat. That was 5 or 10 minutes worth, but man was it fun. We got to where we could cover several square miles in a part of a day. But it took a lot of working on the trucks. They have 1/2 steel skid plates, super clutch setup motor mounts welded up by me and reinforced with chain. But we also lost brakes a couple times. Anyway, glad you didnt get hurt, just remembering the days before college

sounds familiar

Had what I believe the same thing happen on remote hunting trip. We put linkage back into hookup and used bailing wire instead of cotter pin. It broke twice more over next week but was a 60 second fix on side of road once I understood what happened. There is a small plastic bushing on the end of the rod that pins to the arm, this bushing wore out and allowed side pressure on pin until it wore and broke. Went to dealership when we got back and bought new over priced $1.50 bushing and new pin and it would have been good for another 30 years!! (since did an auto swap)

LMFAO! True though!

As far as the cotter pin - that's exactly what let go in my situation, except there's a spin to it. The crackheads that owned the vehicle before me apperantly used a small nail instead of a cotter pin!! I found the nail lying on the floor of the truck when all this happened, so I put two and two together.

AH well - this time around it will be repaired with a COTTER PIN!
