I have seen the light!

Ah yes, i have finally decided to buy a 73-80 C10 to go along with my 1990 K5. Now since the climate over here isn't exactly ideal (a lot of snow and sleet days during the winter) and the local DOT officials have for some reason a weird obsession with salt, +20 year old trucks in decent shape are few and far in between. I was however able to locate a 1979 C-10 Fleetside, an ex-diesel now with an olds 350 gasoline engine, a th400 tranny and a 12 bolt rear.

I spoke with the owner and according to him it needs a new battery, ignition lock, and the power steering pump is leaking fluid. It has had the bed taken apart and all rust repaired, the cab floors have been welded and so on, it also has a fairly new 2-tone paintjob. Completely rust-free, i was told.

I'm going to look at it tomorrow, and if it's in decent shape and rust free, i'll be driving it home. The owner wants €2150 (some $2300), but i'll bet if i show him €2000 in 50 euro bills he'll take it.

Does the price sound fair to ya'll?

Anything i should pay extra attention to in the truck?

looks good!
check it for bondo over the fenders, cab corners, rockers and bottoms of the doors. (you prob know this already, but JIC) Looks like a cool truck!

Take a magnet with you. Run it over the most popular areas to rust on these trucks. If it does not stick....BONDO!!

hey no fair, your license plates fit better than ours do! looks like a good truck. i'd put some chrome wheels on it, and have those whitewalls turned in and you'll be all set.

on the radio tonight i heard one euro is $1.25 at 2000 euros thats like $2500 so thats kinda expensive state side here but i guess in europe its cool looks like a nice truck and im sure if ya ask some of us here wed gladly ship parts from here cheaper to ya

I bought it, for €1150!

It wasn't in as good a shape as the pics suggested so i was able to talk down the price.

-the hood has a minor bend (not uncommon for the 73-80 years, right?) which i really don't mind because i wasn't planning on keeping it anyway.
- the doors have 6x9" holes in them but that doesn't matter because i've got power window&lock doors waiting.

Yeah, and it could use some new front inner fenders, they've got a redneck rust-fix which is a real bummer.

Other than that it's pretty solid, a perfect project vehicle without any factory luxury options to take apart and build up the way i want.

On another note, i almost killed myself twice yesterday

Yesterday we had the worst blizzard yet this winter, and i drove a truck i'm not familiar with in unknown condition 180 miles home with re-treaded Bridgestone duelers in the back and some ancient Michelin whitewalls in the front. Turned out the re-treaded tires didn't even have a M+S rating at all, and they sure felt like it. Twice i lost all traction front and rear and had to watch the truck plunge to the side of the highway through 1-2 feet snow. Now i wasn't going fast, 40-50mph at max but it still went a long way before coming to a stop. I couldn't brake nor steer.
Where the pavement was clear of snow it was coated with ice, i fell when getting out of the truck.
I think there's a lesson to be learned here? I know i'll never do that stunt again.


Old Rusty C10, it would be great if someone were to be kind enough to go through the trouble to get parts for me, i already have a long list waiting here.

The Rust is installed at the factory on anything older then mid 80's They ALL have rust.
GM's rustproffing was pitiful back then. When I put my 75 Jimmy back together I was finding bare metal in the rocker boxes, rockers and all inside cavities. My 79 was starting to have the rockers rust out and it was a truck that stayed in the south and had minimal exposure to road salt. I have no doubt there was no rustproofing on that 79. Late 80's they started dip galvenizing and gotthat bare metal covered with something. Then the could get the paint to stick LOL.

Looks like a nice 79. Wish we had held onto our 79 Blazer. It was a good truck.

Looks like you've got yourself a nice truck. I've got the same engine-tranny-rear combo. Mine is a '79 Shortbox also an ex-diesel. Looks like most of the '79 tucks that went to Europe where ex-diesels, I believe "the baron" has the same combo in his truck.
