Shock help...
Alright I’m in the midst of my first build , so I am learning and have learned most the wrong way. I have a 63 C10 LB , built turbo LS , I’m on the rear suspension and I’m having a hard time deciding what shock brand or style to go with. It’s a 4/6 drop , hotchkis up front and 12T in rear that is also built.

Re: Shock help...
How are your shocks mounted? Stock position or do you have a custom deal?

Right now it’s stock , but I have the bed pulled and just built a rear shock crossmember. So I have the latitude to make it however at this point. I just assumed straight was the best.

Re: Shock help...
What is it going to weigh? What is your budget on shocks?

I’m unsure on exact weight other than factory weight. Bed was redone with oak. Was going to make provisions in the bed to sand bag if needed. It’ll be more street than anything. Other than a red light to red light occasionally. Price is unknown , I got to make it hook...
Sorry I know that is probably not as helpful as it needs to be Posted via Mobile Device |

Let me clarify the weight... it won’t be factory . Turbo LS , 4L80e , crossmembers changed, trans cooler , boxed trailing arms for weight , rear gas tank, sound deadner....

Re: Shock help...
You could go with just about any single or even better double adjustable shock and maybe a 150lb spring. Depends o the budget.

Re: Shock help...
You could get Strange double adjustables for around $700.00. You also need some adjustable shock mounts for the rearend.

Re: Shock help...
I am talking about coil over shocks and doing away with the old coil springs

I thought about that as well , then once I realize how much I’ve got into what I have now , I want to try to stay with shocks for the time being , before coilovers

Re: Shock help...
I don't know what to tell you then. I guess the stiffest gas shock you can find.

Re: Shock help...
Going to take more than shocks to make it hook. With out going to coil overs you may be over sprung. Shocks and spring rates work together. Then working on placing weight (batteries and other components) to improve the front to rear bias helps. Then the front shocks and spring rates have just as much to help as the back. These trucks also have a lot of flex in the frame. That can hinder traction. It all has to work together.

Re: Shock help...
Thanks for chiming in PG. I did run 10.30 @ 130 32 years ago on coils and crap shocks. Probably could have run 9.90's set up right.

Re: Shock help...
Regan we have both learned a lot in the last 30 years. I try and pass as much of that along as I can. May help save someone some of the money and time I spent to figure this stuff out.

Re: Shock help...
I forgot to add about the springs I used back then. They were out of a G-Body car. They are not near as stiff as truck springs.

Re: Shock help...
I played the shock game for years on my 70. Always to hard or to soft. Sooooo I went with coil overs by QA1. 18 adjustments from very soft to rock hard. I’m currently set at 4 in the rear and 6 in the front , rides perfect. Yes it was pricey but worth it in my book. My 70 rides better than my wife’s 2018 Traverse
