new project suspension
Looking for suspension suggestions on a new project. I have a 67 2wd short box fleet side with factory leaf springs. Looking to run about 550hp through a 6.2 Ls I have. My question is the suspension. Truck will not be driven to hard (mostly).
Thinking a modest drop of about 3inch to 5inch in front 4inch to 6inch in back. I have a 72 frame that has the disc brakes so I was thinking switching the front clip and just going with lowered spindles and coils? Or buying a whole new set up? In the back I could just do a lowered spring and a shackle to get the height but not sure how that would handle the power. Not really interested in airbags. I see a couple places sell a bolt in Tourque arm suspension? This truck will be driven by wife lots not going to be hitting the track. |

Re: new project suspension
I just finished putting coil overs from QA1 on my 70. You have leaf rear so not sure what to do there. Any way I’m running an LS1 with 6 speed manual and Ford 9” rear
Putting the coil overs AND Front and Rear sway Bars is the by far BEST upgrade I’ve ever done on this truck. It rides and handles , Seriously, like a brand new truck. The shocks have 18 different settings that you can change anytime with the click of a knob I’m into this whole set up for just under $3000 but I got a guy that can order direct and I got his price. Food for thought

Re: new project suspension
Coil overs and sway bars for the front thanks for the suggestions. Anybody have recommendations for the rear. Trailing arms, Tourque arms, or just drop
the leaf springs not worth it? |

Re: new project suspension
Trailing arm conversion with upgrade spring & shocks or coilovers handle pretty good. Unfortunately the spring seats on a leaf spring axle will not work with trailing arms so the install isn't just a bolt on application. You would need to replace the axle seats which would involve grinding off the old ones, calculating pinion angle and welding on some new seats.
You could add some CalTrack Traction bars to your leafs to help eliminate axle wrap & wheel hop but they don't help much with ride quality or cornering.

Re: new project suspension
Ok Sounds like trailing arm might be the way to go. I have a couple trailing arm rear ends I could use so mounts are no big deal. Trailing Arm conversion vs 4 link any thoughts? Costs are very similar

Re: new project suspension
Stock trailing arm setup is easy to install
Most 67 72 frames have the trailing arm cross member installed just need to add trailing arm mounts to it and add rear top spring mounts I was looking into this for building a 1/2 ton frame for my ride |

Re: new project suspension
That looks slick. I think I will go that direction thanks. What did you do for ride height?
