Making a bed floor lift up

So I messed around with my scissor hinge today, here are the measurements of the ones I made. When I decided to make my bed wood lift I didn’t find much information out there on how to make a hinge to lift and push away. This is only a start on this subject and hopefully if anyone has any advice they can add to this and help the next person. I will add information on how I did my lift as I go.

#1 overall size
#2 opened
#3 size of lg lever
#4 size of small lever
#5 bracket mount measurement

I used 1x3/16 flat bar

Re: Making a bed floor lift up

You really do nice work. How/where does the hydraulic ram tie into the lift?

Re: Making a bed floor lift up

Thanks Robert, I’d like to tell you I have a plan but I don’t, sometimes you just do it and hope for the best. I have looked at gas struts, linear actuators and hydraulic but haven’t decided yet. Here’s some pictures from today’s work, I’m trying to use metal I have sitting around.

#1 where I will mount the hinge.
#2 the width of the frame
#3 I sunk the nuts at the front so they would clear the front bed support.

Tomorrow’s plan is to build the hinge brackets and mount them to the wood.

Can you( make or fabricate) a Tracer plate to create these?

If NorCalGal can supply a pattern?

Re: Making a bed floor lift up

tracer plate being a template? Yea If she can trace it out I can just cut a template out of plywood or something of that nature and then just free hand the plasma cut to metal. It will be a rougher cut than if done by water jet or cnc plasma but a few min with a grind wheel would make it ok i would assume.

Re: Making a bed floor lift up

To be honest I had a couple spots I had to grind a little away for clearance. If I was to do it again and I had a plasma I would probably use the curved arm design like the Eddie Motorsport scissor lift design.I think that may solve the clearance issues I had. I can certainly come up with some poster board or thin wood patterns that would maybe work better.

Re: Making a bed floor lift up

Not sure of the material thickness..but waterjet would give a much nicer edge than plasma..
