Does anyone use these on their trucks and are they worth installing? I'm not sure how they wouldn't cause a binding.

Well I do have a set for my truck. However, after reading threads on this forum I decided not to install them. The over whelming consensus was that the effort to install them did not exceed the benefits.

I believe those seals were included only on the top trim level trucks. If your truck didn't come them, you will not have the steel brackets needed for mounting them.

I had wondered as I don't recall seeing pictures of any trucks with them on. Just doesn't seem to be worth the effort unless one is pursuing an original or authentic finish.

Thank you for that. My truck didn't come with anything but the basics so when I ran across those seals I had to wonder if they were worth using/installing.

I had them on my 1972 Cheyenne Super in the day,probably only on the higer end trucks to stop wind

Thanks Redneck for the confirmation. That is what I thought but I couldn't find the thread to confirm that they were wind noise cancellation. My plan is to put sound deadner in the doors to cancel the wind noise. I already put in the cab of my truck.

I read a thread that those seals were only installed on Cheyenne Supers and 1972 only.

That thread is incorrect. My '69 CST has had them since the truck left the factory. However, it never had the 4 small (sort of ovalish) pieces. This is a poor picture that shows the one on the left side.

FWIW
Had them on my 72 Cheyenne (Fremont, CA build) and replaced them during re-assembly. It was a hassle. One part on each side is a "cup" you have to shape and rivet or staple to the longer flat part. After that even with diagrams and photos it's kind of a puzzle to position - and yes, you have to have the original brackets to use the replacement pieces shown here.
I expect most people/body shops eliminated them for convenience.
All that said... with fender off and the doors on you can see it is a pretty big gap - sufficient that 50 ish years ago on relatively simple work vehicle GM spent the money to do it. Common place now.
My recommendation:
- If you're not taking your fenders off - forget it.
- If your fenders are off or coming off and it's not a Cheyenne or you don't have the brackets, Definitely make your own - easy enough and you could make them even better.
- If you have a Cheyenne with the fenders off and the brackets, but the existing piece is worn out, do it.
BTW - No binding can't even tell they are there. It's a semi flexible reinforced rubber material and really doesn't move or move much at all.

I have been around and around on this myself. My Cheyenne 72 seals are missing, I expect when it was stripped down and painted they were removed and not re-installed. I have a set of brackets/seals that I got off the forums here but the seals need replacing (many places to buy these).

My problem is: the fenders need to come off and I have no other reason to remove them. It annoys me they are missing but not yet to the point I want to take my fenders off to get them installed!

Given that I'm about to start work on my rockers, I'll have the fenders off. But oddly I've discovered that to do the rockers, the wipers need to come off so the cowl will come off so the fenders can come off which means the hood comes off to do the rockers. At this point I'm a little surprised the steering wheel doesn't have to come off also.

However, the cowl does need a little fitting work, both fenders will get some work, the rockers of course will have some major work done to them so here's what I waonder: If I added those seals to my "to do" list, would they make enough difference to warrant the additional time and effort?
