What did my truck look like?
I just bought a 74 GMC 1/2 ton shortbed pickup.
The previous owner had it for about 15 years. He bought it the way it’s painted currently. The SPID says 556 Grecian Bronze/White B85 Upper Custom Mldgs Z62 Custom Deluxe Can anyone tell me what the “White” part of the 566 code means? Was it the roof originally? I’d also like to know what the Upper Custom Moldings are? And what did custom deluxe get you originally? I know it’s a lower level trim. I just don’t know how “base” of a trim level it is. Any help is very much appreciated! Thanks Vinnie |

I’m not a fan of the interior, so I’ll be on the look out for original or original looking interior pieces.

Re: What did my truck look like?
Hi Vinnie,
Nice score on a California smog-exempt square. The white is the color of the roof, ending down the A & B pillars. The trim is on the cab, below the rear window. These trucks were pretty basic.

Re: What did my truck look like?
Thanks. That’s what I wanted to know!
And yes, I got lucky on a pre smog truck. . It’s been on non-op for over ten years. Not much rust at all. It did come with a pretty nasty motor. Maybe too much for everyday driving. |

Re: What did my truck look like?
Based on the SPID, would my instrument cluster bezel and the long dash bezel insert have been wood grain originally?
I’m just trying to figure out what to keep my eye out for so I can bring it somewhat back to a stock appearance inside. |

Re: What did my truck look like?
The dash insert would have been wood grain along with the door panel inserts. The instrument cluster bezel would have been black on yours. Much of the information you're looking for can be found here; https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf
The 1974 info packet in basically the same but the '73 packet explains the RPO's and packages better. The B85 moldings is just the upper trim that runs along the body line of the truck, this also included trim rings around the turn signal, side marker and tail light lenses.
