700R4 Transmission Cost??
Can anyone shed some info on the cost of a 700R4 transmission? I'm finally going to be able to get started on my '72 and kinda need to know what to expect on the tranny.
Thanks in advance! Greg |

Re: 700R4 Transmission Cost??
Greg;
Realizing we need more information and even then it's subjective. Sometimes the 700r4 is referred to as a 4L60. No E on the end. First you need a core. 1987 through 1992 are the recommended cores. Getting a complete core is recommended. That way your will have the (other parts) Like the torque converter cover, Stick and gauge, rear mount and bolts and the TV cable. This stuff will add up quickly if you source it one item at a time. You didn't mention if you were going to do the rebuild or have it done. A typical price may be $1500 to $2500 but this can vary a bunch. The more parts you reuse the less it costs. Some builders use a lot of new parts and this raises the price. Always use a new shell. Sprags, drums and replacement pumps add to the cost. Some of the cost will depend on how good the core is. If the cost is scaring you consider a good used one. Although their is a risk of throwing you money away using this route. I see you live in Texas. A lot of good used trucks there and maybe you can get lucky. Hopefully this is of some assistance. Re: 700R4 Transmission Cost??
A lot of guys in Texas recommend Phoenix Transmissions, just in case you go with a complete unit instead of locally rebuilding a core. I believe this is the correct place in Weatherford, TX:
https://www.phoenixtrans.com/ The Phoenix units go between $2160 & $3000 depending on build level. I'm into my 700R4 "stage 1" rebuild for about $1650, which includes a '92 core, a stock converter & Summit cast aluminum pan with drain plug. The auto recyclers that sold me the 700R4 core took a junk aluminum Powerglide on exchange and saved me a few bucks.
