6v to 12v swap

I swapped a 6volt sys to 12 volt and everything went fine until when you would turn the key off the alternator was back feeding the ignition and not shutting off.
I went to the search and found that I need a resister on the #1
or switched wire. my Question is if I walk into auto zone and request this will they have a clue what Im talking about, It wasnt easy getting the other stuff(coils, ign resisters, relays, sol) Is there a part # to ask for so they can see it on their computor or they wont have a clue. Thanks

If Autozone is anything like Schucks, they will just get an annoyed look on their face and then make a lame attempt to look like they are trying to find what you want, and then tell you to go to the dealer or a wrecking yard.

I really get annoyed when they have to look up valve cover gaskets for a SBC. I used to know all the gasket numbers for SBC's by memory.

get a diode trio out of a internal regulated alternator and use that in the line in question, you only need one of the 3 leads off the diode trio, so if it burns out you have 2 more to use. just make sure it is in the prober direction with the flow or it will work backwards.

you should be able to ask for a diode trio for amid 80's gm alt. and get it w/o much trouble...
