78 trailering special

So I picked up this burb because it was cheap and I wanted a winter beater. I've never owned a 4wd square or anything other than pick ups so some of the stuff is kind of foreign to me. I was told it had a 400 but judging by the balancer and 2 freeze plugs I'm assuming it's a 350. It all looks close to original but I have my doubts. Anyways, it looks like it has a th350 and I assumed with the trailering special/ heavy duty trans it would be a 400. It's a full time 4wd if that changes anything. Does anyone else have one of these? It uses the radiator as a trans cooler and doesn't have separate unit like I thought same came with. Any info on the trailer info would be appreciated.

Looks pretty cool. And actually looks like it's in pretty good shape. Would not have crossed my mind as a beater.

Re: 78 trailering special

The trailering packages usually included HD radiator with an external engine oil cooler, but the trans cooler would still go through the radiator tank. You probably also have the bigger brakes as part of that package. Member Keith Seymore built these trucks at the factory for decades and can answer your question better.

Cool rig!
