Gotta be quick!

Both of these trucks ended up at the pick and pull by my house and were put out Friday morning. By Friday afternoon the 70 short stepper was gone (sold complete) and the last pic shows the 72 C20. Both were in stellar condition and looked like they had been driven in and parked there. Rust free for the most part, no accidents, and the 72 is original paint.

Re: Gotta be quick!

I don't really understand why drivable trucks in good condition end up scrapped. Is it somebody who just doesn't know somebody would want it? Don't have a computer or smartphone and don't know about placing an ad? Or revenge on Grandpa for being an ass, let's scrap that damn truck of his?

Re: Gotta be quick!

They aren’t scrapped, they’re stripped The parts have all been pulled, bought, and now sitting in someone’s garage. The stepper was sold complete, and judging from the engine bay it is probably being driven as we speak

Pick and pull is now offering up to $3500 for complete vehicles, I imagine we will see many more come out of the woods now $3500 no questions asked and not having to deal with all the BS hassles from buyers sounds pretty attractive to a lot of folks. The problem now is pick and pull wants big $$$ for the parts

Re: Gotta be quick!

Who in their right mind would send those to the scrapper? Especially with the price of these trucks going up every day. You can bet that Pick A Part didn't pay jack squat for them.

Re: Gotta be quick!

A lot of yards will mark a vehicle as nice as those ones as "builders" and offer them complete for sale, which I guess the SWB was. I wonder what the yard paid for it.

Hopefully the parts benefited several other projects.

Re: Gotta be quick!

Makes me sick. I'd've bought that stepper if it was good enough condition, which it looks like. I'm about 20 miles from that yard.

Damn! Those are nice. Makes me wonder if the persons who sold'm to the scrap yard had any legal right to do so. Is somebody missing a classic somewhere?

If you look closely at the last pic (which I took) you can see a corner of it laying in the background. It got torn off and smashed, probably in the frenzy to get the complete bed.

No love for trashing a decent complete running truck.
I know everyone needs parts but, to steal a phrase..

That's what make me wonder if the person who trashed them, had a legal right to do so. Seems they knew nothing about what they had or didn't care.

Re: Gotta be quick!

It’s not a scrap yard, it’s a pick and pull. They won’t take anything that isn’t legit. LKQ is a multi billion dollar business, they aren’t going to break any laws and jeopardize that. These 2 trucks aren’t unique, I’ve seen plenty like them in the past 20 years I’ve been junk yarding here. It’s not as common to find them as it used to be, but it still happens. To a lot of people these trucks are just old junk and they have no use for it. Nothing gets crushed on these trucks, people tear them apart till there’s nothing left and the parts are used or resold by savvy pickers.

Which yard were they in? East or West Chula? Might need to go take a look at that cab. I need the upper A-pilar section above the window.

Ontario pick a part. I guarantee you there is nothing left at this point. The photo I took of the 72 C20 was only about 2 hours after that truck was placed in the yard.

Re: Gotta be quick!

Wow, I got a notice of the 72 long bed and was going to go over and see what I could use, but never made it. Wife had other plans. Only thing I was really interested in was the spindles as I would like to go disc in front.

Ontario. Hmm, I had guessed Sun Valley. Ontario is a bit more than 20 miles from me.

I would have been there first thing but one of the kids had practice at 9 so I didn’t get there until a little later. I looked it over for a few minutes but there was almost nothing. The bench seat was laying off to the side but someone took the brackets so I didn’t bother grabbing it. The inside of the cab was TOTALLY gutted with nothing left. The motor mounts were still attached to the engine but I don’t need them. The rear Dana 60 was still there, but again no need for it. I stepped back for a bit and watched as guys came by checking it out, chuckling at the look on their faces when they saw there was nothing left. One guy said he had been there earlier when the yard opened up and when he walked by there were at least 10 dudes on it just going to town. Like rats on a Cheeto

The guy driving it was under the hood working on the carburetor, and a guy comes up and says take what you want, I only want the spare and the hubcaps!
