What did you get done this weekend?

I got the truck completely stripped down to the firewall in preparation for the big block.

-Removed all of the sheetmetal
-cleaned the frame
-removed that awful 3 speed riveted in crossmember
-removed 6 cylinder frame stands
-removed riveted on clutch bracket from frame
-climbed under parts truck and got auto crossmember
-cleaned, sandblasted and POR-15 painted the crossmember
-finished fitting all of the accessories on the big block
-detailed alternator and power steering pump

The scene of the crime:

Pulled the motor, tranny and complete front suspension and subframe out of this. Will blast and paint this week and hopefully be back on the ground next weekend. Also dropped the 502 off at the machine shop for a check-up. Will go back in all fresh and new.

Installed remote power steering

resevoir. Installed two of the three lines. I didn't get two of the connectors right. I hate the reengineering on the fly. Put the plastic covers over the wiring all the way to the tailgate. Also in the engine bay till I ran out of the covering. Went to the hardware store and bought more wiring connectors, grommets and stainless steel nuts, bolts, etc. Will have some pics this week when Randy70C10 brings out the digital camera. See yall Wootdog

about the only thing i got done was getting the seat belts and sill plates out of my 89... tomarow the seat comes out and the new carpet goes in when i can get a chance i plan to clean the barn out and pull the 71 k20 in to pull the engine.

i noticed your signature says you were a mechanic--- you ever work on a 67-72 K series truck with 292?

No man, but I saw your question and it's a good one. I wonder if they put 292s in 4x4s or just 250s. I can see where the offset engine mount would be a problem with the 4x4 setup.

Pulled the Grant wheel off my truck and put it on the daughters 82. Put a 90's style chevy on mine. Cleaned the interrior up some more. Flushed and redid the 82's coolant. hauled 2 truck loads of crap off. Cleaned (sorta) the workshed.

Entertained my son!!

Hell ya, 292's were put in 4x4's. If I had the choice between a 250, 292, small block, or BB in a 4x4, all things being equal I'd choose the 292 hands down. Loads of torque and it has a certain uniqueness about it. Everybody's doing BB's in 4x4's now days

i *think* there was a member on here that had a 67-8 K10 with a 292, and put in a 350... if there is a way to fit a 292 in there its going in!!! the one i have has a 4 barrel intake and header on it, so that should add to the power even a stock one has
i cant help having to be different, everyone has a 350 and i cant afford a big block so i'll just go with the big block of six cylinders

Let's see..............oh, that's right.......... I WORKED ALL WEEKEND! Being in the liquor business this part of the year doesn't leave much time for anything else. Come January I can dust off three months of Honey-Do lists and maybe get some stuff done on my truck.

That's precisely WHY I did what I did this weekend! Here's how my weekend broke down:

Friday...
- Oil change
- Lube
- Diff oil change (with Posi juice)
- Fixed a brake line leak
- Tweaked my TH400 modulator
- New wipers

Saturday...
- New air cleaner (K&N)
- Tweaked the carb
- Vaccum test (15 @ idle)
- New throttle return spring setup

Sunday...
- Installed patented sound-reducing material
- Fixed my defroster (WOO-HOO!)
- Started installing a washer pump

My patented sound-reducing material consists of a rag stuffed down near the passenger side cab corner. It's rusted all the way through, you see, and that meant it was cold and noisy in that cab! Yeah, the best fix is new sheet metal, but a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do. I couldn't believe how much quieter that made the interior!

I picked up a generic windshield washer pump at the local parts house. It's a nice little U.S.A. unit. I've got it mounted and some of the line replaced, but it turns out that the old line is so old and brittle that I can't get the new fittings in there. Yes, I was going to buy new hose, but they only sold 30-inch pieces for $2.99 at the only parts house that was open on a Sunday. I'll finish that little project up tomorrow, I guess.

Mostly piddly little stuff. Nothing big, but it's DAMN COLD out there! Hey, 13 degrees while getting your hands all wet with washer fluid pretty much sucks no matter how you slice it. Still, it seems like every time I turn a wrench, I enjoy the truck just a little bit more.

Friday I got my x-member back from the sand blasters' then on Saturday cut up the spring pockets for air bag install, and made bag mounts. Sunday pretty much just cleaned house, re-calked the bath tub surround and shoveled the driveway a couple of times. Looks like I will have to do that again in the morning...bummer. Cant wait till spring.

I had a beautiful day here today - 43 and sunny!

I re-installed my driver's seat in the Blazer, took the brackets off the pass seat (diff seat coming this week for trial fit), cleaned the rear section, installed the bench, organized my parts.

I would have done more, but the wife is sick, and I've got 3 kids under 4 yrs old.
