454 or not?
Scored a running 454.445 block 045 penut port heads. What do you guys think? Pull the stock 350. I have the power bug and thought this was the cheaper and better way to go. The truck is a toy with the bonus of hauling the odd couch or bed. Think i just need a nudge to get it done.

Re: 454 or not?
I have a 454 in my 3/4 ton Burb with peanut ports. I really like it, but if I was going to go through the effort of transplanting it I would at the very least put a cam in it.
If you can score some large ovals versus your small ovals you would have a very nice, bullet proof engine for every day cruising and hauling. Gas mileage is bad obviously but I don't drive my toy vehicles enough to care about that.

Re: 454 or not?
Given that they are equally in good running condition...stock 350 to a stockish 454 in a toy cruiser...hands down, here's your nudge!
Don't forget the side effects, however. Springs, radiator, bracketry, and transmission.

Re: 454 or not?
I'd probably go to the 454, but if you are going that route, why not do some easy mods, headers, intake, and just a few things to wake it up a bit and not much cost adder. I just did this on a 402 that was stock to the truck, added headers, alum. edelbrock intake, but kept the stock quadrajet. I also added some engine chrome. Running but not road worthy yet, so interested to see how it acts.

Re: 454 or not?
045 are regular oval port heads, 236 are the peanut port heads

Re: 454 or not?
Thanks guys just what I thought. Going to paint it up this aft. And a pic just for viewing pleasure. It's a v671 blower. From what if found out that don't make a manifold for it and it's 20% smaller than a regular 671 so unfortunately I don't think I'm going to use it. I might open a beer and dream though!

Re: 454 or not?
I am using the stock 6 cylinder springs on my truck and it does not sit any lower than with the 250 that came from the factory. I bought a pair of big block springs before the transplant, but the stock springs work fine, seems to handle ok as well. I do have a sway bar, but that was installed before the swap. Brackets should not be hard to come by unless you are going with a short water pump set up. TH350 will handle a mostly stock 454, but a TH400 would be a better choice.
