ABS-Brake lights

Well been running with the abs brake light on for awhile today thought I would pull the circuit board and resolder the circuit board. SO the first screw striped the torquex head ,dremeled a slot for a screw driver nope not helping F#$$%^ dam thing. Does it involve a computer to reset this if I decide to take all the lines of and pull the whole dam thing out? Or do I just keep the thing unplugged and not worry about it 2001 Silvy with 188K it was giving a 265 code and have cleaned all grounds and everything points to this

Re: ABS-Brake lights

I have never had the issue on this generation, but know a few folks that have. Most seem to say there is some sort of electrical issue in the ABS module where they resoldered some connection. I have also seem a couple, mostly on the GMT400 models) where slight leak caused the issue. I do believe you will need a code reader to reset the error. I can't remember what my friends said on theirs. I know one borrowed my reader to reset some codes, but don't reewmeber is it was the brake issue or not.

Re: ABS-Brake lights

Seemed like everything I touched yesterday went to poopoo, I might try and cut the head of torx off and see if I can get the top module off and then vice grip the rest of shaft off. From my search it looks like a scanner of some kind will be needed to do a auto bleed of the unit if the system is broke = brake lines etc.

Re: ABS-Brake lights

265 is a relay code you will need to solider a new relay to the board or go get you a reman from parts house with lifetime warranty, i bought a reman unit from evilbay lasted a year before rleay stuck off again. it is very common on my tahoe i stipped the torx and had to pull the whole unit to get it out, you do have to have an abs scanner that will intface with the abs unit to active the bleed processor

Re: ABS-Brake lights

Mine just popped on 1 day about a year ago now everytime I go somewhere it pops on within a mile and stays on . My ABS light and my brake light stay all the research I have done says it is the solder joints in the module. I couldn't bring myself to work on it today lol . So if I unplug the wires underneath to get rid of the light will that mess up anything? or can I remove the fuse I dont drive this everyday just annoys me when I do

tbh I have no idea about either of those options, I just drive mine like it is. but I have heard the same remedy, resoldering inside the box. it's my spare truck now...so when I get the time I'm having it sent to someone to resolder whatever the hell needs resoldering

yup I seen a few of those really cheap. most are about 100 bucks. turn around time doesn't bother me much but not everyone has a spare truck to drive in the meantime. I've seen the how to videos but I have no idea how to solder really lol. if u know how, go for it. doesn't seem too difficult with soldering experience

Re: ABS-Brake lights

So I noticed in the salvage yard yesterday that there were some ABS modules up under the hood. My Thought was to go down next week and snag one beings it is right in plain site . Surely there is no difference in the module, frame mount to the under mood mount?

Re: ABS-Brake lights

Likely no difference in the module as long as the part number is the same but you'll probably have to program it to match your rig with TIS.

I used the wrong T acronym. TIS is Technical Information System.

I meant AC Delco TDS. https://www.acdelcotds.com/subscriptions
Delco sells a 24 month subscription to allow you to program modules in one vehicle with stock GM software and parameters for your VIN. It costs something but it's not so expensive that it makes going to a shop worth my time.

You need a J2534 pass through interface device that's supported by Delco TDS. The blue Bosch MDI, MDI II, or Vetronix Tech 2 are the dealership level tools. You can buy these from China and they will work. I have WiFi MDI and Tech 2 knockoffs. I figure most "real" Tech 2 handhelds are old enough to be on borrowed time and the 1st gen MDI is in the same category. My Chinese units will outlast my need for the tools.
The Green Bosch Mastertech VCI or VCI II are similar to the blue GM only units but they also support Ford among other manufacturers.
Autel and Snap On sell supported J2534 passthrough interfaces to go with their pro level diag tools but they cost a pretty penny. Decent shops are amortizing these $3,000-$4,000 tools over several vehicles.

Re: ABS-Brake lights

Does the WiFi MDI allow communications for GM 2014 and up? The Tech 2 only reads to 2013. I’m looking to read 2014+ GM vehicles

Re: ABS-Brake lights

My Tech 2 really is only useful to 2010 or 2011 or so. The coverage is pretty well neutered past 2010. I still have some 1992-2010 GM trucks and that same vintage cars that I work on with my Tech 2. I still have a working Mastertech 3100 with the Tech 1A cartridges for the 87-91 GM vehicles.

The MDI should cover up to at least 2019 and probably 2021 for TDS service programming.
Service programming over SAE J2534 interfaces is different from bi-directional diagnostics. Autel charges a lot more for the J2534 box than a WiFi MDI will cost you.

If you want diagnostics you'll have to pony up for a GDS software subscription or get a hacked copy and a laptop that you will not dare connect to your main home network. I have a couple segregated VLANs on my router that can't communicate with one another but most folks don't have enterprise class networking equipment in their homes. I ran a hacked copy of GDS on my sitting duck laptop to see if I could then I bought an Autel tablet.

IMHO you're better off with an Autel Maxisys 906 or 908. You pay Autel now for a tool that doesn't expire and need not be connected to the mothership to verify your subscription. Eventually you may need to pay them a fair chunk of change (around $500-$700) for an update that still doesn't expire or you pay Delco more than the original Autel tool every year. There are several things I can do with my Autel that cannot be done with GDS or the VW VAS interface.

Re: ABS-Brake lights

I had the ABS module go bad in my old 2002 Yukon XL- same issue you're having too. I had to use a mirror and a cordless dremel to grind all the torx screw heads off in order to get the module out. You can drive with the module removed, you have to pull the ABS fuse, wrap each electrical connector with aluminum foil and then I taped a zip loc bag around each of them and tied them up out of the way. I also covered the ABS unit in the same manner. I shipped my module to Module Masters in Idaho and they rebuilt it.
https://superactionhero.myshopify.co...-abs-modules-1

I don't see the GM truck ABS module listed on their site any more but they rebuilt mine with a 5 year warranty. Only took about a week turn around. Worth a call or email to them.

The motor in the ABS unit also went bad on mine and I had to replace the whole unit- which probably killed the module to begin with.
