mercedes C class engine cooling fan
anyone use one of these? I found some interesting info on using mercedes C class engine cooling fan .
https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads...-w-photos.html its reported that they move a serious amount of air and are 18" dia vs 15"-16" for volvo so a gain in sq .in area.I found 2 at u pull auto salvage $60.00 each. here is my cold case rad with fan shroud trimmmed from 26" to 22". fan is 2 3/4" thick with front plastic trimmed down some slightly.need to make some mounting brakets. have controller ariving this week to bench test fan. mercedes fan: volvo fan: volvo fan was to thick to work with bbc and short water pump. as i needed under 3 3/4" for clearence. |

That should move some air. We seldom see a Mercedes in the local wrecking yards here though. The wrecked ones usually got hauled off to Insurance auctions and go to specialty yards in Seattle Or Portland.

How many wires are there on the Mercedes fan? I assume its actually a PWM fan, so if you just put 12v and ground to it, it may smoke the fan module.

Re: mercedes C class engine cooling fan
Outside finding it at my friends wrecking yard deals are hard to find around here. Most of the yards are using an online pricing guide.
My friend here in town remembers that I gave him and his dad about 40 cars over the past 40 years and gives me a deal but his health is really bad. The local pick a part that is 20 miles from me is pretty high most of the time and the local yard here that has newer stuff has a crew of parts pullers and no one gets in the yard except under escort to look at a specific item.

Ok cool. As long as you are aware of it. I work with techs(20 years experience) that just put 12v to the fan and wonder why it doesnt work after they tested it.

Re: mercedes C class engine cooling fan
thanks for reminding me greasy. i asked guy if there was a way of bench testing. he was adamant about not putting 12v directly to it like you mentioned.controller arived have to make time to test it out.
