Dropping front crossmember as one piece?
So I was going to paint the front half of the frame while I was swapping engines and was originally just going to work around the crossmember (which someone previously painted). Just looking at it now, though, is it possible to drop the crossmember with the control arms, springs, wheels and everything in place? Looks like it’s just 6 bolts holding it to the frame and then detach the shocks and brake lines? Would removing it and putting it back in even necessitate a front end alignment? Was just hoping to be able to wheel it out from underneath as one piece.

Yes you can unbolt it and roll it out. Shouldn’t need re aligned.

Re: Dropping front crossmember as one piece?
I am in the middle of swapping an 84c10 front cradle into my 70c20. There are 4 bolts going through the side of the frame and 3 through the bottom on each side. Plus, you will have to pull the motor mount plates as they bridge from the cradle to the frame.

Well, its cumbersome and heavy. Items recommended but not required:
2 strong friends - One to help, one to step in when the first guy gives up. Some type of penetrating oil - the bolts are always crusty. Air or electric impact - those crusty bolts seem REALLY long after the first two or three. Beverages Last but not least - safety glasses
