Would it work if I just stuck a Y pipe between my two tanks to make them just equalize and turn the two tanks into one split tank?

It would be so much better than messing around with this silly tank switch solenoid...

wouldnt work, how would you "equalize" the tanks? The common tube would have to be mounted to the bottom of the tank and would have to be large in diameter so that you could fill one and it would be filling both. Being that the tank output is at the top of the tank (at the sending unit), this is not possible. To make this work would take extensive customization of the tanks and fuel lines and would sort of negate the whole reason for doing it in the first place.. if you get the dual tanks working correctly, its really a pretty cool setup, in my opinion anyways..

I love having dual separate tanks in my truck. It's comforting to know that when that needle is on "E", and you're the the middle of BFE, that gas is just a flick of the switch away. I always keep gas in both tanks just for that purpose. When I get low, I always fill both up. Expensive, with my truck having two 20 gallon talks, but with a gas pig 454, I need 'em.

actually a local guy did just that, he ran a hose from bottom of one tank to bottom of the other.. unfortuanatly when you do this it runs close to the driveshaft.. it did on his, it was a shortbed. The main reason he did it was because around here, there isnt a gas station that still has fuel hoses you can pull across to fill up the other side. you have to put the handle down and turn the truck around... in the mean time someone has pulled into your spot thinking its thier turn to fill up. he says it works as far as equalizing it. when i do this though the hose will be at the top and be run between the bed and the frame, up and out of the way. so i can fill both tanks from one side and still have the seperated.
