Picked up 72 c20

Picked up a 72 c20 yesterday fair shape for an old truck usual rocker and cab corner issues.
Going to put a starter in it today see how it runs

I may put a different 350 in it depends on how well it runs
Thinking clr the body and clear coat it
I have a good windshield in a parts truck to swap over have to see if the rubber is still soft this trucks rubber is hard so i will not re use is

Re: Picked up 72 c20

Looking at POL as they offer new Hd springs thinking about new springs when I redo the front end ball joints tie rods
I might put a ls in it latter, today I want a driving truck with minimal fuss

The one thing i don't like is the eaton rear end there goes getting a posi for it
I have no idea yet what gear ratio is other then guessing 4.10
I do have a 4.57 and a 4.10 eaton locker in other trucks dependant on shape of the drums before I order parts for the eaton

Are C10 and C20 Truck arms the same ?

I may look at what it will take to put a 14 bolt in it I remember someone talked about it on here i have not found that thread

Re: Picked up 72 c20

Wow!!! Nice!!!
Surprised me that it was an automatic!!!
Thankfully it's a 72 (disc brakes!!!)

My education on windshield install/removals:
Never try to save/remove a good windshield AND the gasket. I've saved several windshields and gaskets, it doesn't always work out.......
Installing a good windshield with an old gasket can be attempted, carefully, BUT new gaskets are NOT that expensive!!!

Re: Picked up 72 c20

As for the automatic I am guessing its a t350 as the truck is low hump
I have not climbed under yet and gave it a hard look

I have been collecting parts to build an automatic truck over the last year had several complications with my broken leg so not popping the clutch in Friday traffic is my goal

Trailing arms? The C20 ones are different, although if you can weld you can make C10 ones into C20s, I think.

Nice score, that tailgate looks nice and straight for a working man's truck.

Damn! That looks just like my '72 C20! If you're interested in parting with a hubcap, I lost one and am in need of one to complete my set again. That one on the passenger side is exactly what I need. I'll pay whatever. Such an awesome color.

I responded to your DM about the hubcap. I went to send you a message about the steering wheel but it says your box is full. If that steering wheel is in good condition and the truck is a 505 Green, I'd love to buy that steering wheel if I could. Let me know. Thanks!!

If you end up switching out that rear bumper let me know. I'd be interested in taking it off your hands.

Re: Picked up 72 c20

If you want to know which trans you have look at the carb and see if you have a jerk cable. 400 had an electrical switch, 350 have a jerk cable.

Re: Picked up 72 c20

Nice truck. I like how it was optioned down to the color. Someone knew what they wanted and didn't want. Too bad they didn't get a No Spin. I bet it was a camper hauler or fishing rig. A no frills one. I think it's funny people wanting to pick parts off of it.

Re: Picked up 72 c20

I have a 4.57 and a 4.10 locker I can put in. on a street truck I prefer a posi

The Detroit bang bang can be loud and unsettling to your passengers on a bit of sprited cornering

I was hoping for a dana 60 rear in it as I can find a posi for a 60 easily

Re: Picked up 72 c20

I'd like to find a stock C/20 just to enjoy as it was meant to be.

I've had great experience with No Spins on the street. I read the complaints but none were issues in my experience. I like them less off road because sometimes you just don't want that other wheel engaged. A light touch when pulling a hard right from a stop going uphill works for me. I never had tire wear issues either.

Right! Here is another example in red from back in the day. Painted bumpers, wheels, hubcaps, mirrors all have a way of disappearing , IMO, their individual character is destroyed, and they all begin to look the same.

Re: Picked up 72 c20

I had a parts truck that was a '69 C/20 Stepside in Dark Green, pure stock but not a lot left. It had a 396 w/4spd and No-Spin and all the HD options. It had the 8.25" wheels all around. It wasn't a Custom Camper but it had the camper wiring, mirrors, and slider options
