Quiet stainless steel muffler

I am having an exhaust installed on a 4 X 4 Blazer next week. I am going stainless steel. I can not stand the exhaust that is on it now. Loud and an annoying drone.

All the stainless mufflers are a "performance" muffler.

What is the quietest stainless muffler you know of. I want almost stock quiet.

Thanks
Mark

Re: Quiet stainless steel muffler

I have dual Dynomax 17749 mufflers on my 72 with a 400ci/350hp/exhaust manifold motor. It is nice and quiet with some rumble with a heavy foot, but not much.

The Dynomax 17629 is the shorter SS version and would not be as quiet, but it's the closest Dynomax offers in SS.

Re: Quiet stainless steel muffler

The secret to a quiet exhaust is to keep the exhaust tube diameter as small as practical and the muffler as large as possible. Another tactic is to make sure to use a resonator and a muffler.

You can browse the magnaflow, or whichever brand you prefer, catalog and find the largest stainless muffler that will fit under your blazer.

You didn't mention if you have headers or not.
Everything being equal the vehicle with headers will be louder.

Re: Quiet stainless steel muffler

I have cheap Thrush turbo mufflers on my truck, 402 with headers, its not loud until you get into it. The rest of the exhaust is stainless, so I am thinking about going with Dynomax 17772 to replace them.

Re: Quiet stainless steel muffler

Walker Quiet-Flows are stainless. Get the longest one they have.

Thanks I will look into them.

This was their reply. I find it hard to believe they don't have something that will work.

"Mark,

Thanks for your inquiry. I’m sorry we no longer offer stainless steel mufflers for your application. Here’s a link to the Walker products that we offer for 1972 Chevrolet Blazer."

Re: Quiet stainless steel muffler

If you are redoing the exhaust system, all you need is a universal fit oval case muffler. I bet they make one that works, but you have to get past the lazy GenZ'r to find someone willing to look up specs for that muffler line to find out. Try sending them just the size and shape of the Quiet-Flow you need, and nothing about what vehicle it is going under.

Re: Quiet stainless steel muffler

Walker 21481 is an oval 20" case offset in/out
Walker 21543 is an oval 30" case offset in/out (almost certain to be quieter)

I'm sure there are others.

I have the 17747 Dynomax on my 72 C10 with bone stock 350 with stock manifolds and concur with this posters thoughts. Only difference between his and mine are mine are for 2 1/4 inch pipes and his are for 2 1/2 inch pipes. They are 20 inches long and 9 3/4 inches wide.
