New gas tank straps
I purchased a new fuel tank kit from motor city k5 and the straps fit terribly. Any other options out there? I’m having no luck finding used ones.

Re: New gas tank straps
The L part of the bolt goes through the frame not through the strap.
You will then flip the strap around 90° so that when it comes up from the tank the L faces away from the tank and the bolt will go through that flange. They work fine.

Re: New gas tank straps
Thank you for the reply but, not quite sure I follow. If I flip the strap upside down essentially, the bolt will not go through as the hole opening is in the side. Do you have to bend the bracket itself at a 90?

Re: New gas tank straps
I think the strap will bend around the tank and turn up enough for the bolt attachment.

Re: New gas tank straps
The hook of the bolt goes in the frame with the nut down so you can tighten it. The straps need flipped so the bend points inward toward the tank.

Re: New gas tank straps
You just need to flip them over. Vice is not needed

Re: New gas tank straps
Sorry my drawing skills are not very good but this should help you get it done. No need to bend the straps just flip them over.

Re: New gas tank straps
Right on. Will give it a shot this week. I was thinking adding a bend as they were bowing and making a gap under the center of the tank. I also plan on running some sound deadening type material under the strap as an anti squeak strip.

As far as i know no one reproduces the parts but I bought some sheet rubber and used my old ones as a template. |
