The push in oil cap keeps blowing off!

WTH?

I changed the intake, finally got the timing right. All good right?

I pull out of the drive and go along then accelerate prety good, and then bang, it hits the underside of the hood. So I go back and thought that maybe I left it off or in loose. I look it over and adjust the timing again.

I leave again and go a little further and and boom it happens again.

I have no explanation for this one. Fix one thing, and then another happens.


OOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo boy!

Had the same thing happen scared the crap outta me.. Never did fix the problem but did put in a new crate motor has not happend since.LOL

Valve is not even a month old, but I guess I could replace to see if it changes anything. If it does not, then what?

your building pressure somehow that pcv valve could be stuck most likely possibility

ohh the valve! I gotcha! lol

I have not tried. I will just buy a new one in the morning to have a new one.

pcv valve

rattle the pcv valve just to make sure it isn't stuck. also check the hose to the carb and the carb itself. Has to be there somewhere. Your cap is on the same valve cover as the valve right?

The valve is on the back drivers and the cap is the front passenger side. Where the cap is there used to be a hose going from the valve cover to the underside of the breather.

breather

Do you have a breather on the same side as the oil fill? That could be your problem. On small blocks anyway, they have the fill on the same side as the pcv (both sides sometimes) and the pcv provides the pressure relief for that side. The other side has the vent hose running to the carb stack. If all you have on the passenger side is the oil fill with no breather, that could be the problem. I believe this is why earlier small blocks had the oil fill through the intake since there was no pcv valve on the cover. And of course, I could be completely off base here but that is my best guess.

On mine the PCV is on the passenger side rear with hose to breather, the oil filler was on the drivers rear, and another hose went from the drivers front to the carb??

When I installed my New carb I went from the PCV to the carb, and then just have a filler on the drivers front.

my stock 350 is setup like is :

passenger side.... front = oil cap
......rear = flame arrestor

driver side front = pcv valve

My pure stock 71 has the oil filler on the drivers rear and the pcv on the drivers front. It has the flame arrestor tube/hose to the carb stack on the pass rear. this setup insures pressure relief for both sides.

yall are confusing me. heres what i got... is the thing on the passenger rear the pcv? and the drivers front is the oil filler/breather?

That's how I set mine up, too. The only difference is that I eliminated the hose on the passenger side and replaced it with a breather.

Dinnut,Thats wher the pcv should go but I can't tell if you actually have one from this pic.It doesn't look like it from that angle,only looks like a hose.
