the 72 K10 with no name (yet) thread
Been out of the truck game a little while but it feels good to be back. Bought this Blue 72 K10 that has traveled quite a long way from California. I've had a couple of c10s but I think me and my little boy (4 months old as I type this) will enjoy these mountain roads of North Ga in a k10. There isn't a straight panel on this truck as it has definitely been used (I was told on a ranch) but as far as rust it's actually a really solid truck. The plan is to get it running and driving well, fix up the interior, maybe some 15x8 steel wheels and caps, and drive the snot out of it.
Unfortunately, we haven't started our relationship out on the right foot as the truck needs more work than I was planning on ... I was sold the truck with a "fresh 350" that had junk in the carb. I was told if I would clean out the carb that I would have a "good running truck" .... Unfortunately, it's 2021 and the list of people you can trust is getting shorter every day.. Got home and pulled the tank, cleaned it out, replaced sending unit, and added a new Holley Carb to start the truck and hear a terrible exhaust leak.. No biggie.. fixed the exhaust leak and heard a terrible knocking from the engine... Not what I was hoping for. I bought the truck without hearing it run from someone who I thought I could trust. I was wrong. And it gets better.. Pulled the engine last Saturday to take to my builder to see if it was worth rebuilding or if a replacement would be my best option only to find out that my "fresh 350" was a 305 that had been bored .40 over!! The only thing fresh about the engine was the spray paint all over everything... So needless to say, a replacement is the route I'll be taking.. Don't buy a truck without hearing it run... You live and you learn.. I'm not mad that he did this to me, I'm mad at myself for falling for it. But I'm not going to let that stop me from enjoying this truck. So I ordered a brand new crate 290hp 350 from GM. Should be here in 2-3 days and I'll keep you all posted on the progress. So far I pulled the rubber out of the floor and coated it with some paint just to clean it up. I do have a new rubber mat to go back in the floor with padding and sill plates.. Will also be changing the steering wheel soon.. Also need a name for this truck... Yall help me ! |

Bad deal on the motor, karma will get him back...
I like the truck overall though, good luck with the build, Rg

Sorry about your motor.
When you put the new one in, the dipstick tube goes outside of the exhaust manifold. |

Didn't notice that until you pointed it out. This thing was so thrown together it wasn't even funny. Loose, missing bolts everywhere.. Definitely thrown together by someone in a hurry.

Re: the 72 K10 with no name (yet) thread
I got a brother who sells parts for GM so it saved me a little, but I like the truck too much to put a lesser engine in it. I would love to put a 6.0 in it, but I've been down that road and that's not in the plans for now. Lol

Re: the 72 K10 with no name (yet) thread
I think your truck will be a great one once you work through the issues. I believe a good title for the build thread is "Misrepresented". I have always tried to name my build threads from the obvious. Example one of my builds is called "68 Second Chance", this truck really deserved a second chance. Another one I did is called " 69 K10 from the field", that is where I found it in a field.
I am in for the ride on this one.

Cool truck! So frustrating that people try to get away with stuff like that motor. You've got it headed in the right direction though. I would offer a play on Landarts name idea: Miss Represent. Started out being misrepresented and with the new motor and repairs, it will represent how cool these trucks can be even without doing a full restoration.

Re: the 72 K10 with no name (yet) thread
Went and got the new engine today. Now to get it painted up and installed.. Anyone ever painted a new crate motor? Just clean it and spray it or should I scuff it first?

Interested to hear more about your engine once its ready to take your truck down the road. Cost, dealer or jobber?
